Emil Grigoryevich Gilels (Russian: Эми́ль Григо́рьевич Ги́лельс; 19 October 1916 – 14 October 1985) was a Russian pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of all time. Early life and education Gilels was born to a Jewish family on 19 October 1916 (6 October, Old Style) in Odessa (then part of the Russian Empire, and now Ukraine) to Gesya and Grigory Gilels. His father worked as a clerk in a sugar refinery. His sister Elizaveta, three years his junior, was a renowned violinist. Emil Fjellström (24 October 1884 – 14 July 1944) was a Swedish stage and film actor. Early life and stage career Emil Fjellström was born in Näs parish, Östersund Municipality, Jämtland County and grew up in the city of Östersund. Hermann Emil Louis Fischer (; 9 October 1852 – 15 July 1919) was a German chemist and 1902 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He discovered the Fischer esterification. Emil Dill (15 April 1861, Pratteln - 23 May 1938, Liestal) was a Swiss painter, watercolorist and art teacher. Biography He was born to a family of merchants. He began his training in 1877 at the (a type of trade school) in Basel. The following year, he learned pattern drawing at Baur & Sohn, a strap and ribbon manufacturer, headquartered in Wuppertal. Fritz Dietrich (Lavarone, August 6, 1898 – Landsberg am Lech, October 22, 1948) was a German SS officer and member of the Nazi Party. He held a doctoral degree in chemistry and physics.
