Electoral District Of Mitchell (Queensland)
Mitchell was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland, Australia. History The electoral district of Mitchell was created by the Additional Members Act of 1864 which introduced six new single-member electorates. A by-election was held to fill the seat. The nomination date was 18 March 1865 and the election was held on 25 March 1865. In 1885, part of Mitchell was removed to form the new Electoral district of Barcoo. In 1931, a redistribution absorbed Mitchell into the Electoral district of Barcoo and the Electoral district of Gregory. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). The Assembly first sat in May 1860 and produced Australia's first Hansard in April 1864. Richard Bow
Richard Rowland Bow (3 August 1868 – 11 June 1941) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bow was born in Brisbane, Queensland, the son of David Bow and his wife Margaret Theresa (née Berry). By 1894 he was a butcher in Longreach 1894 and a stock inspector at the Brisbane abattoir. He then became an inspector at the abattoir. John Payne (Queensland Politician)
John Payne (9 November 1860 – 14 January 1928) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Payne was born in Goulburn, New South Wales, the son of William Payne and his wife Mary (née Brogham). He was educated at state and private Schools in New South Wales. He came to Queensland in 1882 where he worked as a shearer, and general bush worker and in 1885 opened a blacksmith and wheelwright business at Arrilalah, which lasted about a year. He went back to shearing until 1890 and the next year held an important position on the Second Strike Committee and later that year opened another blacksmith and wheelwright business in Longreach which he operated for four years. Arthur Charles Cooper
Arthur Charles Cooper (May 1864 – 1 October 1921) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Cooper was born in London, the son of Edward Henry Cooper and his wife Charlotte Maria (née Mills). He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin and went to South Africa where he served with Sir Charles Warren's Buchuanaland Expedition in 1884-1885 and with the Connaught Rangers against the Boer forces. He came to Queensland in 1886 and acquired Weewondilla Station at Longreach in 1889. He returned to England in 1905, inherited a large fortune, and lived at Gissing Hall, Norfolk. He died in Norwich in October 1921. Charles Borromeo Fitzgerald (28 June 1865 – 10 February 1913) was a barrister and politician from Queensland, Australia. Fitzgerald was born in 1865 in Rockhampton, Queensland, the fifth son of Jessie and Thomas Henry Fitzgerald. He received his education in France and was a noted scholar. He became a barrister and he married Joan Mary Cahill from Ireland. Fitzgerald was a captain with the Queensland Irish Volunteers. The resignation of John Francis Buckland caused a 1892 Bulimba colonial by-election, by-election in 1892 for a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland representing the Electoral district of Bulimba.
