Ezequiel Fernández (Panamanian Politician)
Ezequiel Fernández Jaén (3 March 1886 – 26 March 1946) was one of Panama's presidential designates from 1936 to 1940 and in that capacity also acting President of Panama from 16 December 1939, to 18 December 1939. He belonged to the National Revolutionary Party (PNR), acting as president and "Supreme Leader" of the party, until in 1940, Arnulfo Arias Madrid, became President of Panama. Juan Demóstenes Arosemena Barreati (24 June 1879 – 16 December 1939) was President of Panama from October 1, 1936, to December 16, 1939. He belonged to the National Liberal Party (Panama), National Liberal Party. His Vice-presidents were the conservative Augusto Samuel Boyd and Ezequiel Fernández Jaén, the maximum leader and founder of the National Revolutionary Party (today Panameñista Party). He died being President of the Republic of Panamá and was briefly succeeded by Ezequiel Fernández Jaén who was his second vice-president while the first one, Augusto Samuel Boyd, left Washington where he was acting as Panamanian ambassador, came to Panamá. Juan Demostenes Arosemena's presidency dedicated most of his efforts to promote education and health. His brother-in-law Alcibíades Arosemena later served as president from 1951 to 1952. Augusto Samuel Boyd Briceño (1 August 1879 – 17 June 1957 www.encaribe.org) was a politician from Panama. Background He was elected as the first presidential designate by the National Assembly for the terms 1936–1938 and 1938–1940. The National Assembly of Panama (), formerly the Legislative Assembly of Panama ''(Asamblea Legislativa de Panamá)'', is the legislative branch of the government of the Republic of Panama. It is a unicameral legislature, currently made up of 71 members, who serve five-year terms. Legislators from outlying rural districts are chosen by a first past the post method, while districts located in more populous towns and cities elect multiple legislators by means of a proportion-based formula.
