Excavation Of Haile Selassie's Remains
On 17 February 1992, the Ethiopian Radio announced the discovery of the remains of the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie beneath his office in National Palace by workmen. The discovery happened nearly one year after the former military government Derg collapsed in 1991, and under the interim government led by the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). Speculation arose around the circumstances of his death in 1975, and mostly centered on the alleged assassination plot by the Derg under Mengistu Haile Mariam. His remains were temporarily kept in the Ba'ata Mariam Church near the tomb of Menelik II, lying in a glass-fronted case in the perfumed crypt until his burial ceremony took place on 23 July, the 100th anniversary of the Emperor's birth. He was reburied at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa on 5 November 2000. Ethiopian Radio
Radio in Ethiopia was introduced during Emperor of Ethiopia, Emperor Haile Selassie regime in 1933 where the first radio station was built in 1931. On 31 January 1935, with assistance of the Italian contractor firm Ansaldo, the largest and more powerful station was built and the Emperor delivered the first speech in the broadcast. The modern radio transmission was installed by the U.S donation of 2.5 million dollars in 1957, to install ten-kilowatt short-wave transmitter at the Jimma Road and launched in 1960. The Radio Voice of the Gospel, Radio Voice of Gospel began operating in 1964 specifically with Christian preaching in Addis Ababa, whereas the Radio Ethiopia was served as the main propaganda tool for the imperial government. Ethiopian Revolution
The Ethiopian Revolution () was a period of civil, police and military upheaval in Ethiopia to protest against the weakened Haile Selassie government. It is generally thought to have begun on 12 January 1974 when Ethiopian soldiers began a rebellion in Negele Borana, with the protests continuing into February 1974. People from different occupations, starting from junior army officers, students and teachers, and taxi drivers, joined a strike to demand human rights, social change, agrarian reforms, price controls, free schooling, and releasing political prisoners, and labor unions demanded a fixation of wages in accordance with price indexes, as well as pensions for workers, etc. In June 1974, a group of army officers established the Coordinating Committee of the Armed Forces, later branding itself as the Derg, which struggled to topple Haile Selassie's cabinet under Prime Minister Endelkachew Makonnen.
