Evansville is a city in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States, and its county seat. With a population of 118,414 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, it is Indiana's List of cities in Indiana, third-most populous city after Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, Indiana, Fort Wayne, the most populous city in Southern Indiana, and the List of United States cities by population, 249th-most populous city in the United States. It is the central city of the Evansville metropolitan area, a hub of commercial, medical, and cultural activity of southwestern Indiana and the Illinois–Indiana–Kentucky tri-state area, which is home to over 911,000 people. Pigeon Township is one of eight townships in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 29,799 and it contained 15,434 housing units. At just over 11 square miles and having just under 30,000 people, Pigeon Township is both the smallest and most densely populated township in both Vanderburgh County as well as in Southwestern Indiana as a whole. Downtown Evansville and several historical districts are located entirely within the township as it contains the oldest sections of the city. Pigeon Township was established in 1818.
