European Geosciences Union
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is a non-profit international union in the fields of Earth, planetary, and space sciences whose vision is to "realise a sustainable and just future for humanity and for the planet". The organisation has headquarters in Munich, Germany. Membership is open to individuals who are professionally engaged in or associated with these fields and related studies, including students, early career scientists and retired seniors. The EGU publishes 19 public peer-reviewed open-access scientific journals and a number of other science publications. It also organises several topical meetings, as well training events and summer schools, and provides support and funding for numerous education and outreach activities. Its most prominent event is the EGU General Assembly, an annual conference that brings together over 18,000 scientists from all over the world. Geosciences
Earth science or geoscience includes all fields of natural science related to the planet Earth. This is a branch of science dealing with the physical, chemical, and biological complex constitutions and synergistic linkages of Earth's four spheres: the biosphere, hydrosphere/ cryosphere, atmosphere, and geosphere (or lithosphere). Earth science can be considered to be a branch of planetary science but with a much older history. Geology Geology is broadly the study of Earth's structure, substance, and processes. Jean-Pierre Gattuso
Jean-Pierre Gattuso () (born 14 December 1958 in Antibes) is a French ocean scientist conducting research globally, from the pole to the tropics and from nearshore to the open ocean. His research addresses the biology of reef-building corals, the biogeochemistry of coastal ecosystems, and the response of marine plants, animals and ecosystems to global environmental change. He is also interested in transdisciplinary research, collaborating with social scientists to address ocean-based solutions to minimize climate change and its impacts. Irina Artemieva
Irina M. Artemieva (born August 4, 1961) is a Danish professor of Geophysics, currently employed as Distinguished Professor by the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS). Her professional interests include global studies and regional studies about the Earth's lithosphere. Education Artemieva graduated from the Physics Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1984, earning B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in physics. Helen Glaves is the Senior Data Scientist at the British Geological Survey. She serves as Editor for the American Geophysical Union Earth and Space Science journal and was awarded the European Geosciences Union Ian McHarg medal in 2016. Jonathan Bamber
Jonathan Louis Bamber is a British physicist known for his work on satellite remote sensing of the polar regions, and especially the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets. He has authored more than 200 refereed scientific publications about the cryosphere and its interaction with the rest of the Earth System, and is recognized by the Institute for Scientific Information as a "highly cited researcher". In 2019, he was elected a fellow of the American Geophysical Union "for pioneering satellite remote sensing in glaciology and building bridges to other disciplines of the geoscience community." Donald Bruce Dingwell (born 1958) is a Canadian geoscientist who is the director of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Ordinarius for Mineralogy and Petrology of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He is also currently vice-president of the Academia Europaea. From September 2011 to December 2013, he was the third and last secretary general of the European Research Council (ERC), where he embarked on a global participation campaign for the ERC. Tuija I. Pulkkinen (born 1962) is a Finnish space physicist. Her primary research foci are studying the energy flow from the solar wind to the near-Earth space environment and the energy dissipation processes in the magnetosphere. Hans Thybo (born 19 February 1954) is a Danish geophysicist and geologist. He is President of International Lithosphere Program since 2017 and currently employed by the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS).
