EuroLeague Awards
EuroLeague awards were established in the 1987–88 FIBA European Champions Cup, 1987–88 season, when the EuroLeague's modern era and the EuroLeague Final Four first began. More awards were created starting with the 2000–01 basketball season, when Euroleague Basketball Company essentially took over the management of European professional basketball club system, the premier level European competition from FIBA Europe. FIBA Hall Of Fame
The FIBA Hall of Fame, or FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame, honors players, coaches, teams, referees, and administrators who have greatly contributed to international competitive basketball. It was established by FIBA in 1991. Originally built in Alcobendas, Community of Madrid, Spain, by the Pedro Ferrándiz Foundation, it included the " Samaranch Library", the largest basketball library in the world with an estimated 10,000 basketball books and 950 magazines from over 65 countries. After ratification from the Central Board, it moved to the new FIBA headquarters as part of The Patrick Baumann House of Basketball after its construction was completed in 2013. Wayne Hightower
Wayne A. Hightower (January 14, 1940 – April 18, 2002) was an American professional basketball player who had a long and productive career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and American Basketball Association (ABA) from 1962 to 1972. He stood and primarily played the Forward (basketball), forward positions. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and attended Overbrook High School (Philadelphia), Overbrook High School from 1955 to 1958, where he played basketball. His professional career began in 1961 after his departure from the University of Kansas at the end his junior year. Hightower stated he did so to financially support his family, but he would have been ineligible to play basketball his senior year due to his poor Grading in education, academic standing. Viktor Alekseyevich Zubkov (; 24 April 1937 – 16 October 2016) was a Soviet professional basketball player and coach. At a height of , he played at the center position. He is considered to be one of the most distinguished players of Soviet and European basketball in the 1950s and 1960s. Rīgas Armijas Sporta Klubs was a professional basketball club that was based in Riga, Latvia. History Rīgas ASK was founded in 1931, and started playing in the Latvian Basketball Championship. In the years that Latvia was controlled by the Soviet Union, the club was a member of the USSR Premier League, which lasted until 1991 (and to 1992 as the CIS Unified League). In 1953, head coach Alexander Gomelsky came to the club, and he remained with it until 1966. Almost immediately, Gomelsky led ASK to the top of the USSR League, as he and the club's star player, Jānis Krūmiņš, led them to USSR League championships in 1955, 1957, and 1958, and also to the top of the European-wide top-tier level, by winning the FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague) three times in a row, in 1958, 1959, and 1960. Jānis Krūmiņš
Jānis Krūmiņš (30 January 1930 – 20 November 1994) was a Soviet-Latvian professional basketball player. Helped by his height (about 220 cm, or 7'3"), he was the first giant center that dominated under European baskets, for years. As a player of the senior Soviet Union national basketball team, Krūmiņš won 3 gold medals at the 1959, 1961, and 1963 EuroBaskets, as well as 3 silver medals at the 1956, 1960, and 1964 Summer Olympic Games. A Russian poll that was conducted in 2006, named Krūmiņš as the 3rd most popular Soviet men's basketball player of all time, after Arvydas Sabonis and Vladimir Tkachenko.
