EuroBasket 1993
The 1993 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1993, was the 28th FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA Europe. It was held in Germany between 22 June and 4 July 1993. Sixteen national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Europe, the sport's regional governing body. The cities of Berlin, Karlsruhe and Munich hosted the tournament. Hosts Germany won their first FIBA European title by defeating Russia with a 71–70 score in the final. Germany's Chris Welp was voted the tournament's MVP. This edition of the FIBA EuroBasket tournament also served as qualification for the 1994 FIBA World Championship, giving a berth to the top five teams in the final standings. Trabzonspor Basketbol Kulübü (), also known as Trabzonspor Basket or Trabzonspor, is a professional basketball club based in the city of Trabzon, Turkey. Montpellier Paillade Basket was a French basketball club, based in the city of Montpellier. The club has evolved among the elite of French basketball (N1A and Pro) for 14 seasons between 1989 and 2002, but was dissolved in 2002 after filing for bankruptcy that same year. History Created in 1982, following the merger of clubs ''"AS Paillade"'' and ''"Juvignac"'', the club was taken over by Louis Nicollin in the mid 80s and became the basketball section of Montpellier Paillade Sports Club (MPSC). Ettore Messina
Ettore Messina (born 30 September 1959) is an Italian professional basketball coach who is the head coach of Olimpia Milano of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). He has won four EuroLeague championships as a head coach. Messina is regarded as one of the best European basketball coaches of all time, having been named one of the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors in 2008. He was named the Italian League's Best Coach three times, in the years 1998, 2001, and 2005. Furthermore, he has been named EuroLeague's Coach of the Year twice, in 2006 and 2008. He was inducted into the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008, and into the Russian VTB United League Hall of Fame, in 2019. Pallacanestro Treviso, named Benetton Basket due to a long running sponsorship by the Benetton Group and widely referred to as Benetton Treviso, is an Italian youth basketball club based in Treviso, Veneto. The club was previously a successful professional club until 2012 when the Benetton Group decided to withdraw from professional basketball, though they retained the youth section at La Ghirada, the sports complex they own. Zvi Sherf (; born December 18, 1951, in Tel Aviv, Israel), known almost universally by his nickname Zvika (), is an Israeli former basketball player and professional basketball coach. Coaching career Sherf played basketball with the Maccabi Tel Aviv youth teams, starting at age 12. By age 16, Sherf was playing for Maccabi South Tel Aviv (the club's second side), and was sent to a coaching course, along with fellow future Israeli basketball coach Pini Gershon. By age 20, Sherf was coaching the Maccabi Tel Aviv youth teams, and by age 25, he was coaching Maccabi South Tel Aviv, leading it to his first championship. Efthimis Kioumourtzoglou (Greek: Ευθύμης Κιουμουρτζόγλου; born September 28, 1952, in Thessaloniki, Greece) is a Greek former professional basketball coach. Club coaching career Kioumourtzoglou was a head coach of five teams in Greece’s top-tier level Basket league. Kioumourtzoglou was a EuroLeague semifinalist, at the 1995 Zaragoza FIBA EuroLeague Final Four, where he led his team, Panathinaikos Athens, to a third-place finish.
