The Estonian Women's Curling Championship ( et, Eesti kurlingu naiste meistrivõistlused) is the national championship of women's curling teams in Estonia. It has been held annually since the 2004–2005 season, and is organized by the Estonian Curling Association. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends. The player can induce a curved path, described as ''curl'', by causing the stone to slowly rotate as it slides. Markku Uusipaavalniemi (born 23 November 1966 in Karkkila) is a Finnish curler and former politician. Curling career Uusipaavalniemi was the skip of Team Finland for the first time in the mid-1990s. Most (but not all) of Finland's curling medals have been achieved with Uusipaavalniemi as skip. Uusipaavalniemi's team won the European championship in 2000. He is also a two-time World Curling Championships bronze medalist (1998 and 2000) and two-time European Curling Championships bronze medalist (1999 and 2001). Uusipaavalniemi's Finland team disappointingly finished fifth at the 2002 Olympic tournament. Liisa Turmann (born December 3, 1990) is an Estonian curler from Järveküla, Estonia. She currently plays third on the Estonian women's curling team skipped by her sister Marie Kaldvee. Career Juniors Turmann played in three European Junior Curling Challenge events during her junior career in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Her best finish came in 2012 when her team, skipped by Helen Nummert finished in fourth with a 5–3 record. Women's While still in juniors, Turmann competed in her first European Curling Championships in 2010 as third for Team Estonia skipped by Küllike Ustav. The team finished seventh in the B Division with a 3–6 record. Leo Jakobson (born 23 September 1953) is an Estonian curler and sport personnel. He is the father of curling in Estonia. He was born in Tartu. In 1977 he graduated from Estonian Agricultural University. In 2000 he introduced curling in Estonia first time. He is also one of the founders of the first curling hall in Estonia. He has played curling since 2001. He has competed at the European Curling Championships. In 2010 he won Estonian championships. In 2004–2010 he was a member of Estonian national curling team.
