Eranad State assembly constituency is one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies in Kerala state in southern India. It is also one of the 7 state legislative assembly constituencies included in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. As of the 2021 assembly elections, the current MLA is P. K. Basheer of IUML. The Kerala Legislative Assembly, popularly known as the Kerala Niyamasabha, is the State Assembly of Kerala, one of the 28 states in India. The Assembly is formed by 140 elected representatives. Each elected member represents one of the 140 constituencies within the borders of Kerala and is referred to as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The present Kerala Legislative Assembly consists of 140 elected members. History In 1956, the State of Kerala was formed on linguistic basis, merging Cochin, Malabar, and Travancore regions, and the Kasaragod region of South Canara. The first assembly election in Kerala state was held in February–March 1957. The first ''Kerala Legislative Assembly'' was formed on 5 April 1957. Eranad Taluk
Eranad Taluk comes under Perinthalmanna revenue division in Malappuram district of Kerala, India. Its headquarters is the city of Manjeri. Eranad Taluk contains two municipalities - Manjeri and Malappuram. Most of the administrative offices are located in the Civil Station at Malappuram and the Mini-Civil Station at Manjeri. History Eranad was the largest Taluk in the erstwhile Malabar District in terms of area. After the formation of Kerala state, it continued to be largest Taluk in the state, until the formation of Nilambur Taluk in 1990s. At that time the Taluk had 6 Revenue blocks in it: Malappuram, Manjeri, Kondotty, Wandoor, Vengara, and Tirurangadi. On 1st November 1957, the Revenue blocks of Vengara, and Tirurangadi, were added to the newly formed Tirur Taluk. Eranad
Eranad also known as Ernad refers to the erstwhile province in the midland area of Malabar, consisting of Malappuram and nearby regions such as Anakkayam, Manjeri, Kondotty, Nilambur, etc. Currently Eranad Taluk is a Taluk in Malappuram district. Eranad was ruled by a Samanthan Nair clan known as Eradis, similar to the Vellodis of neighbouring Valluvanad and Nedungadis of Nedunganad. The rulers of Eranad were known by the title ''Eralppad''/''Eradi''. They also used the title Thirumulpad. Ernad had two capitals during various times, Nediyiruppu, in Kondotty under Chera rule,K. V.
