Equestrian At The 1980 Summer Olympics – Individual Dressage
The individual dressage at the 1980 Summer Olympics took place on 31 July and 1 August at the Trade Unions' Equestrian Complex. The competition was split into two phases: #''Grand Prix'' (31 July) #:Riders performed the Grand Prix test. The twelve riders with the highest scores advanced to the final. #''Grand Prix Special'' (1 August) #:Riders performed the Grand Prix Special test. Competition Of the 14 starters in the individual competition, only two of them came from west-block nations – Elisabeth Theurer of Austria and Kyra Kyrklund of Finland. Team competition served as the individual qualifier. In the Grand Prix Special, in which only two riders of the Grand Prix class were not allowed to take part, the difference of quality became even more pronounced. Theurer, Kyrklund and the three Soviet riders were the only ones who managed to score more than 1000 points. The Bittsa Equestrian Complex of the Moscow City Sports Committee , ), former ''Trade Unions' Equestrian Complex'', is an equestrian venue located near Bitsa Park in the South District of Moscow city, Russia. Elisabeth "Sissy" Theurer (born 20 September 1956) is an equestrian from Austria, now known as Elisabeth Max-Theurer after marriage. Biography She began horse riding at age 10. In 1968 she met Hans Max, a riding instructor, in cooperation with whom she achieved her main results and whom she married fifteen years later. In 1973 she received ''Mon Cherie'', a gray (horse), gray horse, as a bonus while buying another one. Mon Cherie's first steps were rather disappointing, but after consequent and persistent work he became very skillful, famous for his piaffe-passage (dressage), passage tour and pirouette (dressage), pirouettes.
