David Smith (hammer Thrower, Born 1962)
David Smith (born 21 June 1962 in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire) is a retired hammer thrower who competed for Great Britain at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Biography Smith, a member of Hull Spartan, finished third behind Martin Girvan in the hammer throw event at the 1981 AAA Championships. Smith became the British hammer throw champion after winning the British AAA Championships title at the 1984 AAA Championships and would go on to defend his title very year from 1985 to 1988. Smith set his personal best (77.30 metres) in 1985. He represented England and won a gold medal, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Stephen John Baddeley (born 1961) is an English retired badminton player who competed from the early 1980s to the early 1990s. Badminton career Baddeley won the English men's singles title in 1982, 1985, and 1987. Theresa Ione Sanderson (born 14 March 1956) is a British former javelin thrower. Joyce Elena Oladapo (married name ''Hepher;'' born 11 February 1964) is an English retired long jumper. Biography Oladapo, born in London, finished second behind Australian Robyn Lorraway in the long jump event at the 1983 WAAA Championships but by virtue of being the highest placed British athlete she became the British long jump champion. In 1984, she jumped the qualifying distance required to compete at the 1984 Summer Olympics, however she achieved this two days after the British athletics team had been submitted to the International Olympic Committee, and was thus unable to be selected: she instead competed in the long jump at the Friendship Games in Prague, which were held as an event for sportspeople from Communist countries who were boycotting that year's Olympics. Joan Jeanetta Baptiste (born 12 October 1959) is a former British sprinter who competed mainly in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay. She won a silver medal at the inaugural World Championships in 1983 in the 4 × 100 m relay and competed in the 200 metres at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Biography Baptiste was born in St. Vincent and was a member of the Wolverhampton & Bilston Athletics Club. Kathryn Jane Cook (née Smallwood; born 3 May 1960) is a former athlete, specialising in sprint and sprint relays. She is one of the most successful female sprinters in British athletics history. She is three-times an Olympic bronze medallist, including at 400 metres in Los Angeles 1984. Paula Dunn , (formerly Thomas, born 3 December 1964) is an English former sprinter who competed in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay. She represented Great Britain in all three events at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Sally Jane Janet Gunnell, OBE, DL (born 29 July 1966) is a British former track-and-field athlete, who won the 1992 Olympic gold medal in the 400 metres hurdles. During a 24-month period between 1992 and 1994, Gunnell won every international event open to her, claiming Olympic Games, World Championship, European Championship, Commonwealth Games, Goodwill Games, IAAF World Cup and European Cup golds in the event, and breaking the British, European and World records in it.
