England Squash is recognised by Sport England as the England, English national governing body of the racket sports of Squash (sport), squash and squash 57. Based at the National Squash Centre in Manchester, it aims to increase participation in both sports. History The Squash Rackets Association was founded in 1928, to take over the administration of the game from the Tennis and Rackets Association. In 1934, the separate Women’s Squash Rackets Association was formed. These associations looked after squash in Great Britain until 1980, when responsibility for Scottish Squash and Racketball, Scotland and Squash Wales, Wales passed to autonomous national associations. Squash, sometimes called squash rackets, is a List of racket sports, racket ball game, sport played by two (singles) or four players (doubles) in a four-walled court with a small, hollow, rubber ball. The British Junior Open is considered the second most prestigious junior open squash championship after the World Junior Squash Championships. It is one of the five Tier 2 events in the WSF World Junior Squash Circuit. British Junior Open is divided into ten categories: Boys under-19, boys under-17, boys under-15, boys under-13, boys under-11, girls under-19, girls under-17, girls under-15, girls under-13, and girls under-11. The under-19 boys category was known as the Drysdale Cup before 1999; the under-16 and under-14 categories were both held prior to 1999, until they wwee replaced by the under-15 and under-17 categories. The British National Squash Championships are the national squash championships for players from the United Kingdom & Ireland. They are held on an annual basis, with the venue changing for each year. The Championships were inaugurated in 1974 are not to be confused with the British Open Squash Championships which is open to all nationalities and is the oldest squash tournament. The championships also involve masters events for British squash players in different age groups.
