Engineers Australia (EA), known formally as the Institution of Engineers, Australia, is an Australian professional body and Non-profit organization, not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to advance the science and practice of engineering for the benefit of the community. Engineers Australia is Australia's recognized organization for accreditation of professional engineering qualifications under the Washington Accord (credentials), Washington Accord. As of 2022, EA has 115,000 members, which includes 31,000 students. History The association began after World War I, following recognition of the need for a single body to represent engineers, rather than multiple smaller associations. Professional Association
A professional association (also called a professional body, professional organization, or professional society) is a group that usually seeks to advocacy, further a particular profession, the interests of individuals and organisations engaged in that profession, and the public interest. In the United States, such an association is typically a nonprofit business league for tax purposes. In the UK, they may take a variety of legal forms. Roles The roles of professional associations have been variously defined: "A group of people in a learned occupation who are entrusted with maintaining control or oversight of the legitimate practice of the occupation;" also a body acting "to safeguard the public interest;" organizations which "represent the interest of the professional practitioners," and so "act to maintain their own privileged and powerful position as a controlling body." Andrew James Parfitt is an Australian acacedmic who is the 5th Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Technology Sydney. He was appointed to the role in November 2021. He was previously the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Newcastle from 2012 to 2016, and Provost of the University of Technology Sydney from 2017 to 2021. David John Wissler Knox is an Australian oil and gas industry executive and former chief executive officer and managing director of Santos. Knox is originally from Edinburgh, Scotland and is considered to be one of South Australia's most influential people. Julie Hammer
Air Vice Marshal Julie Hammer, (born 17 February 1955) is an Australian engineer and a retired senior officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). She was the first woman to be promoted to one-star rank, and also the first woman to be promoted to two-star rank, in the Australian Defence Force. Guillermo "Bill" Capati, is an Australian engineer. He is an adjunct professor and professional engineer in the field of civil and environmental engineering. Capati is an adjunct professor at the University of Queensland since December 2008. Capati was awarded the University of Southern Queensland Outstanding Alumni of the Year in 2020.
