Szemplińska would have performed the song at the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on 14 May 2020, if not for the cancelation of Eurovision 2020. Alicja Maria Szemplińska (; born 29 April 2002), also known mononymously as Alicja, is a Polish singer. She won season 10 of '' The Voice of Poland'' in 2019. The following year, she won Poland's national Eurovision selection competition '' Szansa na sukces'' with her song " Empires", which she would have performed at the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam on 14 May 2020. Laurell Barker (born April 20, 1979), also known mononymously as Laurell, is a Canadian singer and songwriter currently residing in Malmö, Sweden. She has co-written songs with numerous artists, including Twice, Eleni Foureira and Oh My Girl. She is also known for co-writing songs competing in the Eurovision Song Contest and its national selections. She won a Juno Award in 2018 for Dance Recording of the Year. Poland was set to be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Empires" written by Dominik Buczkowski-Wojtaszek, Patrik Kumór, Laurell Barker and Frazer Mac. The song was performed by Alicja Szemplińska. The Polish broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP) organised the national final in order to select the Polish entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The national final consisted of three semi-finals featured seven contestants each on 2, 9 and 16 February 2020, respectively, and a final on 23 February 2020 featuring the three qualifying contestants. The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was planned to be the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It would have taken place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, following the country's victory at the with the song " Arcade" by Duncan Laurence. Radio Zet () is a Polish commercial radio station launched in 1990, as the second privately owned radio in Poland. Since 2023, its majority shareholder has been Agora (company), Agora SA. History Radio Zet was established in Warsaw, and aired its first broadcast on the 28th of September 1990.
