The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Stockholm is the chief diplomatic mission of the United Kingdom in Sweden. The embassy also represents the British Overseas Territories in Sweden. It is located on Skarpögatan in the Diplomatstaden neighbourhood. The current British Ambassador to Sweden is Samantha Job. History Great Britain established a diplomatic mission in Stockholm in 1720. The current embassy building located at Skarpögatan 6-8, was opened in 1967 and was designed by the architect William S. Bryant. Since 2018, the building has also housed the New Zealand–Sweden relations, New Zealand Embassy to Sweden. The British Ambassador's residence, which was built between 1914 and 1915 and was designed by Richard Allison (architect), Richard Allison, is located in the same area as the embassy, at Laboratoriegatan 8. Samantha Job
Samantha Louise Job is a British civil servant at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. She is the current UK Ambassador to Sweden. She was appointed to the Order of St Michael and St George in the 2022 New Year Honours. Early life and education Born in 1971, Job has said that she wanted to enter diplomatic service from the age of 14. Her mother and father had served in the Royal Air Force, and she was interested in a career that tried to stop wars. She was an undergraduate student in History at the University of Oxford. Diplomatstaden (Swedish language, Swedish for "Diplomat City") is a neighbourhood in the Östermalm district in central Stockholm, Sweden. As the name suggests, the neighbourhood is the home of many embassies and ambassadorial residencies. Lillienhoff Palace
The Lillienhoff Palace (Swedish ''Lillienhoffska palatset'') is a building located on a corner of the large square ''Medborgarplatsen'' in southcentral Stockholm, Sweden. The property is owned and managed by municipally owned AB Stadsholmen. History It was built in 1668–1670 by merchant Joachim Pötter (1630–1676), who was ennobled in 1668 under the surname of Lillienhoff, based upon blueprints were by architect Johan Tobias Albinus (ca 1635-1679). Lillienhoff was one of the larger shipowners in Stockholm. He was also a co-stakeholder in several of companies and was also a partner in the Swedish East India Company. After the death of Lillienhoff in 1676, his widow Petronella Lohe remained in the main building until her death in 1694.
