The Embassy of Sweden in Mexico City is Sweden's diplomatic mission in Mexico. The mission of the embassy is to represent Swedish interests in Mexico, as well as to strengthen bilateral relations within the governmental, commercial, business, academic, cultural and civil society spheres, with a particular emphasis on cooperation for sustainable development. History Sweden and Mexico have had diplomatic relations since 1850. In 1913 a position as ''chargé d'affaires'' was established in Mexico. In the 1940s, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and El Salvador belonged to the legation's area of operation. The legation consisted during this time of an envoy and a first clerk. Nils Erik Wilhelm Af Wetterstedt
Baron Nils Erik Wilhelm af Wetterstedt (November 8, 1815 – January 1, 1887) was a Swedish diplomat and translator of opera libretti. In his early career he worked in the Swedish Foreign Office and had diplomatic posts in Vienna, Berlin, the Hague and Copenhagen. In 1857 he was appointed Swedish-Norwegian envoy to the United States. Polanco is a neighborhood in the Miguel Hidalgo borough of Mexico City. Polanco is an affluent '' colonia'', noted for its luxury shopping along Presidente Masaryk Avenue, the most expensive street in Mexico, as well as for the numerous prominent cultural institutions located within the neighborhood. Colonia San Rafael is a colonia of the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City, just west of the historic city center. It was established in the late 19th century as one of the first formal neighborhoods outside of the city center and initially catered to the wealthy of the Porfirio Díaz era. These early residents built large mansions, many with French influence, and many still remain. Middle class residents moved in soon afterwards, and building and rebuilding over the 20th century has introduced a number of architectural styles. Cuauhtémoc (), named after the former Aztec leader, is a borough (''demarcación territorial'') of Mexico City.
