The Rocket Record Company
The Rocket Record Company is a record label founded by Elton John, along with Bernie Taupin, Gus Dudgeon, Steve Brown and others, in 1973. The company was named after John's hit song " Rocket Man". The label was originally distributed in the UK by Island and in the US by MCA Records, both of which John was also signed to (after 1976). History The first artists who signed to the label were the group Stackridge, who completed two albums for The Rocket Record Company after moving from MCA. It also became the home of Cliff Richard, Neil Sedaka (whose three most successful U.S. mid-1970s albums were on Rocket), Colin Blunstone, the Hudson Brothers, Blue, Kiki Dee, Judie Tzuke, The Lambrettas, Junior Campbell, Brian & Brenda Russell, and the Dutch band Solution. Island Girl
"Island Girl" is a 1975 song by English musician Elton John. It was written by John and his songwriting collaborator Bernie Taupin and released as the first single from the album ''Rock of the Westies'' (1975). It reached number one for three weeks on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the U.S. (John's final No. 1 single as a solo artist for 22 years), selling over one million copies. It also reached the top five in Canada and New Zealand, as well as the top twenty in Australia and the UK. John has not performed the song since 1990. While no official reason has been given, Andy Greene of ''Rolling Stone'' surmises it is due in part to controversial lyrics about a Jamaican prostitute in New York City and a Jamaican man who wants to take her back to Jamaica. Background The single's B-side was "Sugar on the Floor", written by Kiki Dee, who would go on to duet with John on a number of occasions, most notably on their chart-topping 1976 single, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". Someone Saved My Life Tonight
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is a song with music by British musician Elton John and lyrics by Bernie Taupin, from John's 1975 album ''Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.'' It was released as a single on 20 June 1975, the only single released from the album. Like the rest of the album, the song is autobiographical, and addresses an attempted suicide by John. At 6 minutes and 45 seconds, "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" was twice as long as a typical single, but owing to the highly personal nature of the lyrics, John refused to let it be edited down to a more suitable length for radio airplay. Despite the length, the song peaked on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart at No. 4 and in Canada on the ''RPM'' Top Singles chart at No. 2. It would be John's last single for eight years to feature the original Elton John Band of John, Dee Murray, Davey Johnstone, and Nigel Olsson, as John fired Murray and Olsson following the recording of the album. Background The song conclu ...

Greatest Hits 1976–1986
''Greatest Hits 1976–1986'' is a collection of hits by Elton John released in the United States only by Music Corporation of America, MCA Records in 1992. It replaced an earlier compilation, Geffen's 1987 release ''Elton John's Greatest Hits Vol. 3''. This was necessitated because of a shift in the control of copyrights and a resulting reshuffling of compilation albums. Background Ultimate ownership of Elton John's recordings had always rested with the artist's British labels. Hence DJM Records, DJM/This Record Company Ltd. owned all of John's recorded output up to and including 1976's Here and There (Elton John album), ''Here and There'' while John's own royalty collection company (alternately called "Sackville" and "Happenstance") owned the recordings from 1976's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" single and ''Blue Moves'' album onwards, which were released outside North America by The Rocket Record Company. However, in the United States and Canada, this was obscured by the labels ...
