Eiði Power Plant
Eiði (''Northern Faroese'' ɔiːjɪ) is a village located on the north-west tip of Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands. It is the seat of Eiði Municipality. It is located 4 km north of Ljósá and 6.5 km west of Funningur. History Eiði was first mentioned in writing early in the 14th century. Eiði was settled by Norsemen. The earliest sign of settlement was carbondated to approx. 920 CE. Settlement is likely to have happened earlier. In the centre of the village is Eiði Church. It was founded on September 18, 1881, and was designed in 1879 by Danish architect Hans Christian Amberg. The LORAN-C transmitter Ejde was previously located just east of Eiði. The transmitter was deemed obsolete in 2015 and was turned off for the final time on 1 January, 2016 and dismantled three years later. Arnbjørn Hansen
Arnbjørn Theodor Hansen (; born 27 February 1986 in Eiði) is a Faroese football striker who plays for EB/Streymur in the Faroe Islands Premier League. He has also played for the Faroe Islands national team from 2006 to 2014. As of 20 November 2020 he has played 288 matches and scored 155 goals in the Faroe Islands Premier League Career Arnbjørn Theodor Hansen has some good skills in handball and football. Hans Pauli Samuelsen (born 18 October 1984) is a Faroese retired professional footballer who played as a left winger. Club career Samuelsen started his professional career in EB/Streymur where he stayed for 13 years, playing 309 competitive matches and scoring 93 goals. Gregers Joensen (December 14, 1835 – June 12, 1897), also known as Grækaris Joensen, was a Faroese teacher and politician. Joensen was born in Eiði.Trap, Jens Peter. 1954. ''Danmark'', vol. 13. Eiðis Bóltfelag
Eiðis Bóltfelag (also known as EB) is a Faroese sports club based in Eiði. Its football section merged with Streymur Hvalvik in 1993 to form EB/Streymur. History Football The club was founded on 24 February 1913, making it the oldest football club on Eysturoy The idea of a local football club was well received. Within the first few days, membership had risen to 40+ people. In the first 30 years of existence, Eiðis Bóltfelag was only active in football. In the early years, from 1913 to 1916 time was spent on building the pitch. In 1916 EB played its first game. A 9-a-side game organized together with men from Fuglafjørður. EB/Streymur is a Faroe Islands, Faroese Professional sports, semi-professional football Football team, club based in Streymnes and Eiði. The club was founded in 1993, as result of the merger between Eiðis Bóltfelag, EB and Ítróttarfelagið Streymur, Streymur. They have won the Faroe Islands Premier League twice and the Faroe Islands Cup four times. Ejde Loran-C transmitter was a Loran-C transmission facility near Eiði on the island of Eysturoy, part of the Faroe Islands. The island is located in the North Atlantic and is part of Denmark. Loran-C Loran-C is a system of hyperbolic radio navigation which developed from the earlier LORAN system. It uses low frequency signals from beacons to allow the receiver to determine their position. Conventional navigation involves measuring the distance from two known locations, radio navigation works in a similar way but using radio direction finding. Radio navigation systems use a chain of three or four transmitters which are synchronised. Each chain has a primary station and the others are called secondaries. Each chain has a group repetition interval (GRI) which, multiplied by ten, is the time difference between pulses. The GRI identifies which chain a vessel is receiving.
