2017 Women's Hockey Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2017 Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations was the seventh edition of the Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of Africa organised by the African Hockey Federation. It was held in Ismailia, Egypt from 22 to 29 October 2017. Zambia withdrew before the tournament. The winner qualified for the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup. The five-time defending champions South Africa won their sixth title, after beating Ghana 4–0 in the final. 2025 Women's Hockey Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2025 Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations will be the ninth edition of the Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of Africa organised by the African Hockey Federation. In March 2025 it was announced that the tournament would be held alongside the men's tournament in Ismailia, Egypt from 11 to 18 October 2025. The winner will qualify for the 2026 Women's FIH Hockey World Cup. Qualification The highest-ranked team in the FIH Women's World Ranking qualified directly for the tournament while the other teams had to play in the regional qualifiers. The top two teams from each regional qualifier qualified for the tournament. The three regions were North-East Africa, North-West Africa, and Central-South Africa. Ismailia
Ismailia ( ', ) is a city in north-eastern Egypt. Situated on the west bank of the Suez Canal, it is the capital of the Ismailia Governorate. The city had an estimated population of about 1,434,741 according to the statistics issued by the Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics on 27 July 2022. It is located approximately halfway between Port Said to the north and Suez to the south. The Canal widens at that point to include Lake Timsah, one of the Bitter Lakes linked by the Canal. History Ismailia was founded in 1863, during the construction of the Suez Canal, by Khedive Isma'il Pasha, Ismail, after whom the city is named. Field Hockey
Field hockey (or simply referred to as hockey in some countries where ice hockey is not popular) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with 11 players in total, made up of 10 field players and a goalkeeper. Teams must move a hockey ball around a field by hitting it with a field hockey stick, hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal (sports), goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, although grass has become increasingly rare as a playing surface.
