Education in Nepal has been modeled on the Education in India, Indian system, which is in turn based on that of the old British Raj. The National Examination Board (Nepal), National Examinations Board supervises all standardized tests, while the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Nepal), Ministry of Education is responsible for managing educational activities in Nepal. The National Center for Educational Development is Nepal's teacher-training body. In 2021, Nepal's literacy rate was 76.2% (81% for males and 63.3% for females). The April 2015 Nepal earthquake destroyed schools and severely impacted the nation's ability to keep its remaining schools open. Jhapa District (; ) is a district of Koshi Province in eastern Nepal named after a Rajbanshi Surjapuri language word "Jhapa", meaning "to cover" (verb). The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) is a non-profit organisation primarily housed in Wellington, New Zealand. It was established in 2016 by Anne-Marie Brook, K. Chad Clay, and Susan Randolph, experts in human rights and economics, who noticed a gap in easily accessible and understandable human rights data. HRMI produces a free database of metrics, summarizing human rights performance in countries around the world. Secondary Education Examination (SEE) is the final examination in the secondary school system of Nepal which is being taken by National Examination Board . National Examination Board upgraded from what was previously known as School Leaving Certificate (Nepal), School Leaving Certificate (SLC). Every student must take this examination for completing the 10th grade of their study (According to the new Education Act) before they join higher secondary or intermediate level education (12th grade).
