Orthodox Autocephalous Church Of Albania
The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania (), commonly known as the Albanian Orthodox Church or the Orthodox Church of Albania, is an autocephaly, autocephalous Eastern Orthodox Church, Eastern Orthodox church. It declared its autocephaly in 1922 through its Orthodox Congress, Albania, Congress of 1922, and gained recognition from the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Patriarch of Constantinople in 1937. The church suffered during the Second World War, and in the Communist Albania, communist period that followed, especially after 1967 when Albania was declared an State atheism#People's Socialist Republic of Albania, atheist state, and no public or private expression of religion was allowed. The church has, however, seen a revival since religious freedom was restored in 1991, with more than 250 churches restored or rebuilt, and more than 100 clergy being ordained. Berat
Berat (; sq-definite, Berati) is the List of cities and towns in Albania, ninth most populous city of Albania and the seat of Berat County and Berat Municipality. By air, it is north of Gjirokastër, west of Korçë, south of Tirana, and east of Fier. Berat is located in the south of the country. Anastasios Of Albania
Archbishop Anastasios, ( Secular name: Anastasios Yannoulatos; ; ; 4 November 1929 – 25 January 2025), was the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania and as such the primate and Head of the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania. He was elected in June 1992. He was Professor Emeritus of the National University of Athens and an honorary member of the Academy of Athens. Anastasios was one of the presidents of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches. He was also the honorary president of the World Conference of Religions for Peace. Life and career Anastasios was born in Piraeus, Greece. His paternal grandfather was from Asos, Cephalonia, and moved to Lefkada during the middle of the 19th century. Mokër
Mokër is a geographical region in Southeastern Albania, composed by 47 villages, which are all above 1,000m from sea level. The region is composed of two subregions, Upper Mokër (Mokra e Sipërme) and Lower Mokër (Mokra e Poshtme). In recent years, several villages have lost much of their population due to severe economic conditions, unemployment, lack of infrastructure and emigration. Damian Kokoneshi
Archbishop Damian (, secular name Dhimitër Kokoneshi; 26 October 1886 – 8 October 1973) was the bishop of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania and its primate from 7 March 1966. De facto he led the Church until February 1967, when the religion was abolished in Albania. Life Kokoneshi was born on October 10, 1886, in the village of Llëngë in Mokër region, (part of then Ottoman Empire), near Pogradec in today's Albania. He was born into an Aromanian family. His early education included attending the Normal School of Monastir in 1896 and the Academy of Theology in Ioannina in 1925. On November 27, 1918, the ''Émigré'' Albanian Orthodox clerics sent a signed petition to the U.S. President, then Woodrow Wilson, asking for support of Albanian Church becoming autocephalous. Kolonjë
Kolonjë is a municipality in Korçë County, southeastern Albania. It was created in 2015 by the merger of the former municipalities Barmash, Çlirim, Ersekë, Leskovik, Mollas, Novoselë, Qendër Ersekë and Qendër Leskovik. The seat of the municipality is the town Ersekë. The total population is 11,070 (2011 census), in a total area of . It is an ethnographic region.
