Ducal Palace Of Pesaro
The Palazzo Ducale di Pesaro or Ducal Palace of Pesaro is a Renaissance-style palace in the city center of Pesaro, region of the Marche, Italy. History The initial structure at the site upon which this palace was built was likely commissioned by the Malatesta, sometime between 1285 and 1429. The present palace was commissioned in the 15th century by Alessandro Sforza, and held by the Della Rovere family till 1631. Duke Francesco Maria I Della Rovere in 1523-1532, commissioned restorations from Girolamo Genga. Francesco Maria's son, Guidubaldo II continued renovation. Girolamo's son, Bartolomeo, added a wing, designed by Filippo Terzi along via Barignani. The interiors once had paintings by Federico Brandani, Taddeo Zuccari, and Ludovico Carracci. With the passage in 1631 of the Duchy from the Della Rovere family to the Papal States, the palace housed the Papal legates. Federico Brandani
Federico Brandani (1522/1525 – 1575) was an Italian sculptor and stuccoist who worked in an urbane Mannerist style as a court artist of Guidobaldo II della Rovere, Duke of Urbino. Early life Born in Urbino, Brandani was apprenticed there to Giovanni Maria di Casteldurante, a maiolica artist, between 1538 and 1541. There are stucco wall and ceiling decorations by Brandani in the Palazzo Ducale, Urbino. His masterpiece is considered to be his ''presepio'', a nativity scene with life-size stucco figures, which is in the Oratory of the Church of San Giuseppe, Urbino. The Civic Museum of Palazzo Mosca (Musei Civici di Palazzo Mosca) is the main civic museum of Pesaro, displaying art and decorative works, located in Piazza Mosca in this town of the region of the Marche, Italy. History Since 1936, the main collection has been displayed in the Palazzo Mosca, once belonging to a wealthy merchant family. In the 16th century they built this palace and the rural Villa Caprile outside of town. The palace was refurbished in the 18th century under the patronage of the marquis Francesco. He commissioned the work from Luigi Baldelli, a pupil of Giovanni Andrea Lazzarini. The Mosca family retained the palace well into the 19th century, until it became property of the commune. Ludovico (or Lodovico) Carracci (21 April 1555 – 13 November 1619) was an Italian, early-Baroque painter, etcher, and printmaker born in Bologna. His works are characterized by a strong mood invoked by broad gestures and flickering light that create spiritual emotion and are credited with reinvigorating Italian art, especially fresco art, which was subsumed with formalistic Mannerism. Filippo Terzi (1520–1597) was an Italian military and civil architect and engineer, born in Bologna, who went to Lisbon in 1577 and the following year joined the disastrous military expedition to Morocco where he was taken prisoner at the Battle of Alcácer Quibir, after which his release was negotiated and he returned to Portugal, where he spent the remainder of his career, dying at Setúbal.
