The Danish Association of Architects ( Danish: , abbreviated to AA), is an independent professional body for architects in Denmark. History The Danish Association of Architects was founded at the initiative of L. A. Petersen on 21 November 1879. The principal aim was to advance and promote architectural quality by influencing planning and design of the physical environment in the widest possible context. Between 1951 and 2004, the Danish Association of Architects was part of the umbrella organisation National Association of Danish Architects (Danish: ; DAL/AA). In 2004, DAL/AA was demerged into the Danish Association of Architects, the Danish Union of Architects, and the industry organisation (now ). Åbenrå (street)
Åbenrå is a street in the Old Town of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Landemærket in the southeast to Rosenborggade in the northwest, linking Vognmagergade with Tornebuskgade. The last part of the street passes the rear side of the grounds of the Reformed Church in Gothersgade. The former rectory associated with the church is located at No. 32-36. It is now houses the Danish Association of Architects. History The street originally followed Copenhagen's East Rampart in an area of the city, north of Landemærket, which long remained relatively undeveloped. It is believed that the street was originally called "Åbne Vråer", a reference to a row of open market stalls that sold woollen goods at the site. This name was gradually corrupted into its current name and it is thus unrelated to the name of the town Aabenraa in South Jutland. Carl Brummer
Carl Harald Brummer (12 July 1864 – 14 February 1953) was a Danish architect who was influential in the design of homes at the beginning of the 20th century. Biography Brummer was born in Bogense. After attending the Danish Academy from 1888 to 1896, he worked for Ferdinand Meldahl and Hermann Baagøe Storck. He initially became known for Ellestuen, a freely designed country home which was quite different from conventional houses in Denmark. He soon became one of the leading Danish architects for designing private homes between the beginning of the 20th century and the First World War including Svanemøllevej 56 (1904) and Lundevangsvej 12 (1908), both in Copenhagen. He also drew on architecture from the late 18th century, for example in designing Heymans Villa in 1907 before adopting the Neoclassical style and experimenting with other approaches including simplified Functional designs which can be seen in Gurre Church (1918) and his own home (1920). Jacob (; ; ar, يَعْقُوب, Yaʿqūb; gr, Ἰακώβ, Iakṓb), later given the name Israel, is regarded as a patriarch of the Israelites and is an important figure in Abrahamic religions, such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Thomas Havning
Thomas Laub Hansen Havning was a Danish architect, illustrator, writer and royal building inspector born in Nyboder, Copenhagen on 4 September 1897. Career Thomas Havning graduated from the secondary school ''Borgerdydskolen'' in Copenhagen in 1909 and was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in September 1909 from where he graduated with a degree in architecture in 1917. He was subsequently employed by Poul Holsøe and Jesper Tvede 1912-14 and by Hack Kampmann 1916]-19. From 1920 to 1963 he was the advising architect for the Danish Ministry for Education and from 1944 to 1961 he was royal building inspector. Havning won the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1914 and the Eckersberg Medal in 1935 (for his own house in Valby). He received awards from Copenhagen Municipality in 1921, 1935, 1944 and 1951. Kay Fisker
Kay Otto Fisker, Hon. FAIA (14 February 1893 – 21 June 1965) was a Danish architect, designer and educator. He is mostly known for his many housing projects, mainly in the Copenhagen area, and is considered a leading exponent of Danish Functionalism. Education and career Kay Fisker was born on 14 February 1893 in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. He entered the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1909 and while there worked at the offices of leading Scandinavian architects such as Anthon Rosen, Sigurd Lewerentz, Gunnar Asplund and Hack Kampmann parallel to his studies. In 1915, in collaboration with Aage Rafn, he won a competition to design the railway stations along the Almindingen-Gudhjem railway on the Danish island of Bornholm. After graduating, his career as a practising architect was dominated by numerous influential residential projects. Vestersøhus was built from 1935 to 1939 by Fisker and C. F. Møller.
