John Cooper (Arkansas Politician)
John R. Cooper (born 1947), is a Republican politician from Jonesboro, Arkansas. He won a special election to fill a partial term in the Arkansas Senate in 2014, and was reelected in 2016. He lost his reelection bid in the Republican Primary in March 2020. Electoral history 2012 Arkansas House of Representatives Cooper ran for the District 59 Arkansas House of Representatives in 2012 against Democrat Butch Wilkins. The Arkansas State House of Representatives is the lower house of the Arkansas General Assembly, the state legislature of the US state of Arkansas. The House is composed of 100 members elected from an equal amount of constituencies across the state. Each district has an average population of 29,159 according to the 2010 federal census. Arkansas Act 372 was signed by the Arkansas governor on March 31 and is scheduled to go into effect in August 2023. Sections one and five of Arkansas Act 372 expose librarians and booksellers to criminal penalties, which includes up to a year in prison, in the case they distribute materials such as books, magazines, and movies deemed "harmful to minors." The Act The primary purpose of Act 372 is to permit books in public libraries to be banned or transferred. It states that anybody may "challenge the appropriateness" of a book, although it does not specify what "obscene" or "appropriateness" means.
