Jeremy Denk
Jeremy Denk (born May 16, 1970 in Durham, North Carolina) is an American classical pianist. Early life Denk did not come from a musical family. After several years in New Jersey, his family settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he grew up. He attended Oberlin College and did graduate work at Indiana University where he studied with György Sebők. Career Denk has won a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, the Avery Fisher Prize, and Musical America's Instrumentalist of the Year award, and has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Denk has performed throughout the US and Europe in recital and with major symphony orchestras and has toured with Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Denk's releases from Nonesuch Records include the opera ''The Classical Style'' with music by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. ''Life & Times of Michael K'' is a 1983 novel by South African-born writer J. M. Coetzee. The novel won the Booker Prize for 1983. The novel is a story of a man named Michael K, who makes an arduous journey from Cape Town to his mother's rural birthplace, amid a fictitious civil war during the apartheid era, in the 1970-80s. Plot summary The novel is split into three parts. The novel begins with Michael K, a poor man with a cleft lip who has spent his childhood in institutions and works as a gardener in Cape Town. Michael tends to his mother who works as a domestic servant to a wealthy family. The country descends into civil war and martial law is imposed, and Michael's mother becomes very sick. Paula Denk
Paula Denk (; 18 January 1908 in Namibia – 9 January 1978 in Munich) was a German actress. She was a star of stage, screen, radio and television whose career spanned five decades. Denk’s list of acting credits begins in the 1930s, with films such as ''The Love Hotel'' (1933, as Lilo), '' Escapade'' (1936, as Vera, the bride) and the comedy ''Peter, Paul and Nanette'' (1935, as Adele), in which she was described as “a slender brunette, especially attractive as a pert maid” in a 1940 ''New York Times'' review. Ralph Denk
Ralph Denk (born 1 November 1973) is a German cycling team manager, and former cyclist, who is the founder and manager of the Bora–Hansgrohe UCI WorldTeam cycling team. As a cyclist, Denk won multiple Bavarian Regional Championships. Career Denk began cycling at the age of twelve. He won multiple Bavarian Regional Championships, and competed in stage races including the Bayern Rundfahrt. Predominately an amateur cyclist, Denk also rode as a professional cyclist in 1999. In 2000, Denk set up a bicycle shop and an eponymously named cycling team, Ralph Denk Racing. Ralph Denk Racing competed at the 2000 and 2001 UCI Mountain Bike World Cups, and prior to the 2005 season, Roel Paulissen signed for the team. Ulrike Denk
Ulrike Denk (born 10 May 1964 in Cologne) is a German former athlete who competed in the sprint hurdles. In 1983, she broke the List of world junior records in athletics, world junior record in the 60 metres hurdles with 8.06, which was only broken in 2015 by Dior Hall. Denk represented West Germany at the 1984 Summer Olympics, finishing seventh, and 1983 World Championships in Athletics, 1983 World Championships, reaching the semifinals. Winfried Denk
Winfried Denk (born November 12, 1957 in Munich) is a German physicist. He built the first two-photon microscope while he was a graduate student (and briefly a postdoc) in Watt W. Webb's lab at Cornell University, in 1989. Early life and education Denk was born in Munich, Germany. As a child he spent most of his playtime learning to use the tools and building materials in his father's workshop. In school it became apparent that Denk’s ‘talents were unevenly spread across subjects, math and physics being favored’. Fixing and constructing electronic devices was his main hobby throughout high school. After high school, Denk completed the mandatory 15-month stint in the German army and spent the next 3 years at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Denk (after Birgit Denk, self-styled as DENK) is an Austrian rock band from Schwechat near Vienna, formed around the lead singer Birgit Denk, who writes the band's lyrics in Viennese dialect. DENK (political Party)
DENK (; Dutch for "think" and Turkish for "equal" or "balanced") is a political party in the Netherlands, founded on a minority rights platform. It is legally registered as "Politieke Beweging Denk" (Political Movement Denk). The party was founded by Tunahan Kuzu and Selçuk Öztürk, two Turkish Dutch members of the House of Representatives, after leaving the Labour Party on 13 November 2014. Upon winning three seats at the 2017 election, DENK became the first migrant-founded party to gain seats in the Dutch national parliament. Although the party has been colloquially described as a "Muslim political party", DENK "does not promote Muslim candidates as do most similar political parties in Europe". Indeed, during DENK's second State elections in 2021, Stephan van Baarle, an agnostic, also became a DENK member of the House of Representatives.
