''Death is a Caress'' () is a 1949 Norwegian film noir starring Claus Wiese, Bjørg Riiser-Larsen and Ingolf Rogde. Based on a 1948 novel by Arve Moen, it was Edith Carlmar Edith Carlmar (born Edith Mary Johanne Mathiesen; 15 November 1911 – 17 May 2003) was a Norwegian actress and Norway's first female film director. Edith Carlmar
Edith Carlmar (born Edith Mary Johanne Mathiesen; 15 November 1911 – 17 May 2003) was a Norwegian actress and Norway's first female film director. She is known for films such as ''Aldri annet enn bråk'' (1954), ''Fjols til fjells'' (1957), and ''The Wayward Girl (1959), Ung flukt'' (''The Wayward Girl'', 1959). Her 1949 film, ''Døden er et kjærtegn'' (''Death is a Caress''), is considered to be Norway's first film noir. The last film she directed, ''The Wayward Girl (1959 film), Ung flukt'', introduced Liv Ullmann, Norway's most famous actor internationally, to the silver screen. Carlmar came from a poor family in the working class districts of East End and West End of Oslo, East Oslo. Arve Moen
The Arve () is a river in France (''département'' of Haute-Savoie), and Switzerland (canton of Geneva). A left tributary of the Rhône, it is long, of which 9 km in Switzerland. Its catchment area is , of which 80 km2 in Switzerland. Its average discharge in Geneva is . Rising in the northern side of the Mont Blanc massif in the Alps, close to the Swiss border, it receives water from the many glaciers of the Chamonix valley (mainly the Mer de Glace) before flowing north-west into the Rhône on the west side of Geneva, where its much higher level of silt brings forth a striking contrast between the two rivers. Claus Wiese (March 1, 1924 – September 7, 1987) was a Norwegian actor and American-based radio broadcaster. Wiese was born in Lillestrøm. He graduated from the Oslo Cathedral School in 1944 and worked as an actor with the Oslo New Theater from 1945 to 1951. Wiese debuted in the film '' Englandsfarere'' in 1946. He married an American, Joan Ann Trapp, on August 12, 1950. Bjørg Riiser-Larsen (September 28, 1916 – August 13, 2000) was a Norwegian actress. Riiser-Larsen appeared in several Norwegian films, and in 2006 the magazine '' Rushprint'' named her the greatest Norwegian film diva of all time. On the ''Rushprint'' website, the writer Kjell Ola Dahl describes Riiser-Larsen as a "film noir diva" and "femme fatale." Ingolf Rogde (14 May 1911 – 4 June 1978) was a Norwegian actor. He was born in Sande Municipality in Sunnmøre, and was married to actress Siri Rom. He was mainly known for his long-term period with the touring theatre Riksteatret. Rogde made his stage debut at Trøndelag Teater in 1937, and was later assigned with Det Nye Teater, Det Norske Teatret, Riksteatret and Rogaland Teater. He also worked for Radioteatret. Among his films are ''Rikard Nordraak'' (1945) and '' Ugler i mosen'' (1959).
