Dónal O'Kelly
Donal O'Kelly (born 1958) is an Irish playwright and actor. Early life O'Kelly was born in Dublin in 1958. He worked in the Irish Civil Service as a computer programmer, before quitting to become active in theatre and politics. Career O'Kelly's first play was ''Silicon Sweethearts'' (1984). In 1993, he co-founded Calypso Productions, dedicated to staging work that deals with human rights. He is a longtime activist and an associate director of Afri (organisation), Afri. O'Kelly was elected to Aosdána in 2007; he resigned in 2011 after Dunamaise Arts Centre refused to hang one of Mannix Flynn's works and was accused of censorship by Aosdána; O'Kelly did not agree. Donal O'Kelly's 1995 play ''Catalpa'' won a ''Scotsman'' Fringe First Award at the 1996 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Critics' Prize at the 1997 Melbourne International Festival in 1997. Dublin
Dublin is the capital and largest city of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Paths To Freedom
''Paths to Freedom'' was a popular comedy on the Irish television network RTÉ Two. The shows stars two characters, Jeremy ( Brendan Coyle) and Rats ( Michael McElhatton), who have both recently been released from a Dublin prison. The show takes the format of a mockumentary, with a fly-on-the-wall camera crew following the two characters, who are from thoroughly different backgrounds, as they try to reintegrate back into society. There were six episodes of the show produced, the first airing on 13 November 2000, and the final episode airing one month later. The series was followed-up by a movie based on the character Rats, '' Spin the Bottle''. The term "the people" refers to the public or common mass of people of a polity. As such it is a concept of human rights law, international law as well as constitutional law, particularly used for claims of popular sovereignty. Aosdána Members
Aosdána ( , ; from , 'people of the arts') is an Irish association or academy of artists, each of whom must have produced a distinguished body of work of genuine originality. It was created in 1981 by the country's Arts Council on the initiative of a group of writers with support from the Taoiseach. Membership, which is by invitation from current members, is limited to 250 individuals; before 2005 it was limited to 200. Its steering body is a committee of 10, called the Toscaireacht. Formation Aosdána was originally set up by the Arts Council, on the suggestion of writer Anthony Cronin, with support from the Taoiseach, Charles Haughey, well known for his support for the Arts, although Fintan O'Toole has argued that this also served to deflect criticism of Haughey's political actions.
