Délı̨nę Got'ı̨nę Government
The Charter Community of Délı̨nę (North Slavey: ) is located in the Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada, on the western shore of Great Bear Lake and is northwest of Yellowknife. Délı̨nę means "where the waters flow", a reference to the headwaters of the Great Bear River, Sahtúdé. It is the only current settlement on the shores of Great Bear Lake, as Fort Confidence was last used in the 1800s and Port Radium closed in 1982. There is no permanent road to the community and access is by Déline Airport (serviced by North-Wright Airways, Déline Water Aerodrome in the summer and ice road in the winter. History According to early records, a trading post was established in this general area as early as 1799 by the North West Company, but it did not last very many years. Great Bear Lake

Mackenzie River Expedition
The Mackenzie River expedition of 1825–1827 was the second of three Arctic expeditions led by explorer John Franklin and organized by the Royal Navy. Its goal was the exploration of the North American coast between the mouths of the Mackenzie River, Mackenzie and Coppermine River, Coppermine rivers and Bering Strait, in what is now present-day Alaska, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Franklin was accompanied by George Back and John Richardson (naturalist), John Richardson, both of whom he had previously collaborated with in the disastrous Coppermine expedition of 1819–1821. John Franklin
Sir John Franklin (16 April 1786 – 11 June 1847) was a British Royal Navy officer, explorer and colonial administrator. After serving in the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812, he led two expeditions into the Northern Canada, Canadian Arctic and through the islands of the Arctic Archipelago, during the Coppermine expedition of 1819 and the Mackenzie River expedition of 1825, and served as Governor of Tasmania, Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemen's Land from 1837 to 1843. During Franklin's lost expedition, his third and final expedition, an attempt to traverse the Northwest Passage in 1845, Franklin's ships became icebound off King William Island in what is now Nunavut, where he died in June 1847. Peter Warren Dease (1 January 1788 – 17 January 1863) was a Canadian fur trader and Arctic explorer. Biography Early life Peter Warren Dease was born at Fort Mackinac on 1 January 1788, the fourth son of Dr. John Dease, an Irish loyalist and the captain and a deputy agent in the British Indian Department, and Jane French, who may have been a Mohawk from Caughnawaga. His father was a nephew of Sir William Johnson, and first cousin of Sir John Johnson. He was named after Admiral Sir Peter Warren, an uncle of Sir William Johnson. North West Company
The North West Company was a Fur trade in Canada, Canadian fur trading business headquartered in Montreal from 1779 to 1821. It competed with increasing success against the Hudson's Bay Company in the regions that later became Western Canada and Northwestern Ontario.
