This is a list of encyclopedias in the Dutch language. : : : *This usually means that volumes of the encyclopaedia were originally printed on paper, but at some point (usually in the 1990s or early 2000s), the encyclopaedia has been digitised and made available in whole or in part in electronic form (usually online, but not necessarily). An encyclopedia is a reference work or compendium providing summaries of knowledge, either general or special, in a particular field or discipline. Encyclopedias are divided into article (publishing), articles or entries that are arranged Alphabetical order, alphabetically by article name or by thematic categories, or else are hyperlinked and searchable. Encyclopedia entries are longer and more detailed than those in most dictionary, dictionaries. Standaard Uitgeverij
Standaard Uitgeverij is a Belgian publisher, and the leading publisher in the Dutch language market of Flanders. History In 1919, the Standaard group was created, mainly consisting of a chain of bookshops (Standaard Boekhandel), a newspaper (''De Standaard'') and a publishing house, the Standaard Uitgeverij. By the 1930s, the different branches became more and more independent, but only in the 1980s was the group finally disbanded. In 1994, the company was acquired by the Dutch group PCM Uitgevers, PCM Algemene Boeken BV. The company is best known for its comics and popular literature, but also publishes youth literature, non-fiction (mainly cartography, lexicography, and massmarket titles), and multimedia publications. A more purely literary imprint is Manteau, formerly an independent publisher founded by Angèle Manteau now owned by Standaard. The Dutch Wikipedia () is the Dutch-language edition of the free online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. It was founded on 19 June 2001. As of , the Dutch Wikipedia is the -largest Wikipedia edition, with articles. It was the fourth Wikipedia edition to exceed one million articles, after the English, German, and French editions. Many articles however have been created by bots and are only a few lines of length, the ''article depth'' is very low. In April 2016, 1154 active editors made at least five edits in that month. English is the most popular Wikipedia in the Netherlands, followed by Dutch. In Belgium, Dutch is sometimes the most popular Wikipedia, but French is usually the most popular; in Suriname however, the only Dutch-speaking country outside Europe, Dutch Wikipedia is second after English. Grote Spectrum Encyclopedie
The ''Grote Spectrum Encyclopedie'' ("Great Spectrum Encyclopedia") (published by Het Spectrum, Utrecht between 1974 and 1980) is a Dutch encyclopedia which treats subjects in 5000 large and comprehensive articles (like the ''Encyclopædia Britannica'') with a clear accent on the social sciences. Description Encyclopedia contains about 5000 large detailed articles on various topics with an emphasis on social sciences. All illustrations and design are colored, which is new for this kind of encyclopedias, published in the Netherlands. The editor-in-chief of the encyclopaedia in 1972-1974 was Inez van Eyck, who in 1971-1972 also was preparing articles for the publication. The circulation of the encyclopedia, as a rule, was sold with the delivery of volumes to the house. The total cost was 2500 guilders . Grote Nederlandse Larousse Encyclopedie
The ''Grote Nederlandse Larousse Encyclopedie'' (abbr. GNLE) is a Dutch-language encyclopaedia based on the French ''Grand Larousse encyclopédique'', which appeared from 1971 to 1979 in 25 volumes. The project of publisher Heideland-Orbis (Hasselt) was larger in scope than its example, as well as the then existent Dutch encyclopaedias ''Winkler Prins'' and '' Oosthoek''. Due to the cooperation with the publisher of the Larousse they could appeal to the extensive know-how of the French encyclopaedia and supplement it with the help from Dutch and Belgian experts. The encyclopaedia contains 500,000 lemmas, 1066 categories grouped in 20 disciplines, 8000 literary quotations, 52,000 illustrations, 1200 geographical and thematic maps and 40 000 citations. Friesland ( ; ; official ), historically and traditionally known as Frisia (), named after the Frisians, is a Provinces of the Netherlands, province of the Netherlands located in the country's northern part. Dutch ( ) is a West Germanic languages, West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family, spoken by about 25 million people as a first language and 5 million as a second language and is the List of languages by total number of speakers, third most spoken Germanic language. The ''Eerste Nederlandse Systematisch Ingerichte Encyclopaedie'' (abbr. E.N.S.I.E., "First Dutch Systematically Arranged Encyclopaedia"), is a Dutch language encyclopaedia at first in ten volumes of which the first volume appeared in 1946 and the tenth, the alphabetical lexicon, in 1952.
