Duchess Of Edinburgh's String Orchestra
The Duchess of Edinburgh's String Orchestra (DESO), previously known as the Countess of Wessex's String Orchestra (CWSO), is a 24-member string band from the British Army's Royal Corps of Army Music. It is the only independent full-time string band in the British Armed Forces. It is named after Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly Countess of Wessex), the daughter-in-law of Queen Elizabeth II, sister-in-law of King Charles III and Colonel-in-Chief of RCAM. It is stationed from the former quarters of the Royal Artillery at Woolwich Barracks. History There have been string bands in existence in the British Army since the mid-18th century, usually being sported by units of the Royal Artillery. The Six-String Soldiers is a component unit of the United States Army Field Band responsible for performing contemporary American folk music genres, principally including bluegrass music, bluegrass and country music, country, as well as acoustic covers of popular songs. The Alexandrov Ensemble (), commonly known as the Red Army Choir in the West, is an official army choir of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Russian armed forces. The Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra was the only symphonic orchestral ensemble ever created under the supervision of the United States Army. The Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces () is one of six full-time Regular Force military bands in the Canadian Armed Forces. It is also the seniormost military band in the CAF. The band provides professional musical support for the representative institutions of the Canadian Forces, supporting the Department of National Defence and the Government of Canada, in events throughout the National Capital Region.
