Druze–Syria Clashes (2025–present)
On 28 February 2025, violent confrontations erupted between security forces affiliated with Syria's transitional government and local Druze gunmen in Jaramana, a Damascus suburb with significant Druze and Christian populations. These clashes resulted in one fatality among security forces and nine injuries among Jaramana residents. Afterwards, the government and local Druze leaders agreed to share security responsibilities in Suwayda. Background The clashes occurred approximately three months after the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024. Following this change in leadership, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa worked to establish security and governmental authority throughout the country. Jaramana
Jaramana () is a city in southern Syria, administratively part of the Rif Dimashq Governorate in the Ghouta plain. Its location, 3 kilometers southeast of the Syrian capital, makes it a bustling town in the greater Damascus metropolitan area, with a mostly Christian and Druze population. History Jaramana was visited by Syrian geographer Yaqut al-Hamawi in the early 13th-century and noted it was "a district of the Ghautah of Damascus." On August 28, October 29 and November 28, 2012, the town was hit by car bombings killing over 50 civilian residents, including several Iraqi and Palestinian refugees. Syrian Caretaker Government
The Syrian caretaker government () was the provisional government of Syria. It was established in December 2024 by the Syrian opposition after the Syrian General Command appointed Mohammed al-Bashir as prime minister, replacing Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali on 10 December. Quneitra Governorate
Quneitra Governorate is one of the fourteen governorates (provinces) of Syria. It is situated in southern Syria, notable for the location of the Golan Heights. The governorate borders the countries of Lebanon, Jordan and Israel, and the Syrian governorates of Daraa and Rif Dimashq. Its area varies, according to different sources, from 685 km2 to 1,861 km2. The governorate had a population of 87,000 at the 2010 estimate. Golan Heights
The Golan Heights, or simply the Golan, is a basaltic plateau at the southwest corner of Syria. Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham
Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) was a Sunni Islamist political organisation and paramilitary group involved in the Syrian civil war. It was formed on 28January 2017 as a merger between several armed groups: Jaysh al-Ahrar (an Ahrar al-Sham faction), Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (JFS), Ansar al-Din Front, Jaysh al-Sunna, Liwa al-Haqq, and the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement.
