Drayton House
Drayton House is a Grade I listed country house of many periods south-west of the village of Lowick, Northamptonshire, England. Described as Northamptonshire's most impressive medieval mansion by Nikolaus Pevsner, "one of the best-kept secrets of the English country house world" by architectural historian Gervase Jackson-Stops, and (affectionately) "a most venerable heap of ugliness, with many curious bits" by Horace Walpole, the house is generally held to have been begun in 1328. There have been changes to the house in each century since, including works recorded by John Webb, Isaac Rowe, William Talman, Jean Tijou, Tilleman Bobart, Henry Wise, Gerard Lanscroon, John Van Nost, William Rhodes, Alexander Roos, George Devey and John Alfred Gotch. Drayton is a rural locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Drayton had a population of 1,813 people. Drayton is at the outer southwestern edge of Toowoomba. It was first substantial settlement on the Darling Downs, initially being established in 1842. The nearby township of Toowoomba expanded more rapidly than Drayton, and in the 1860s the centre of population shifted to Toowoomba, leaving Drayton as a southwestern suburb. Geography The South Western railway line forms the south-western boundary of the locality, which is served by Drayton railway station (). Drayton is a village and civil parish about south of Abingdon, Oxfordshire. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The parish includes the hamlet of Sutton Wick. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 2,353. Archaeology Two sites of former settlements in the parish are scheduled monuments. One is about north of the village at Sutton Wick, overlapping the parish boundary with Abingdon. The other is around Brook Farm, about southeast of the village. Drayton Hall is an 18th-century plantation house located on the Ashley River about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Charleston, South Carolina, and directly across the Ashley River from North Charleston, west of the Ashley in the Lowcountry. An example of Palladian architecture in North America and the only plantation house on the Ashley River to survive intact through both the Revolutionary and Civil wars, it is a National Historic Landmark. Description The house has a double projecting portico on the west facade, which faces away from the river and toward the land side approach from Ashley River Road. Drayton, Norfolk
Drayton is a suburban village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is located in the district of Broadland, north-west of Norwich and south of Aylsham. Today, Drayton is largely dominated by the Thorpe Marriott housing estate built in the late twentieth century. History Drayton's name is of Anglo-Saxon origin and derives from the Old English for "a farmstead or settlement where logs were dragged." In the early twentieth century, several Roman artefacts including coins and pottery were unearthed close to the village, with a further Anglo-Saxon cemetery being discovered on the banks of the nearby River Wensum.
