Downtown
''Downtown'' is a term primarily used in American and Canadian English to refer to a city's sometimes commercial, cultural and often the historical, political, and geographic heart. It is often synonymous with its central business district (CBD). It may also be a center for shopping and entertainment. Downtowns typically contain a small percentage of a city's employment but are concentrated in services, including high-end services (office or white-collar jobs). Sometimes, smaller downtowns include lower population densities and nearby lower incomes than suburbs. It is often distinguished as a hub of public transit and culture. History Origins The ''Oxford English Dictionarys first citation for "down town" or "downtown" dates to 1770, in reference to the center of Boston. Some have posited that the term "downtown" was coined in New York City, where it was in use by the 1830s to refer to the original settlement, or town, at the southern tip of the island of Manhattan.Fogels ...

Downtown (Marshall Crenshaw Album)
''Downtown'' is the third album by singer/songwriter Marshall Crenshaw. The album received moderately positive reviews, though less positive than his previous work, and was commercially unsuccessful, peaking at number 113. Background After the relative disappointment of ''Field Day'', Crenshaw had unsuccessfully attempted to leave Warner Bros. Records. Because of the conditions under which the album was recorded, Crenshaw felt that the songs on the album had a "downcast vibe" to them. He recalled, "That was in a period where I was really having trouble finishing things, and even committing to finishing things. My brain was really pretty scrambled at that point in time. That was after ''Field Day'', and the whole fallout with that, where there was a real sense of doom about my career. It was really weird. If somebody had been able to w ...

''Downtown'' is an American animated sitcom created by Chris Prynoski that aired on MTV from August 3 to November 8, 1999. The show follows a group of young adults who live in an urban area on East Village of New York City, presenting their everyday lives. Inspired by Ralph Bakshi's movies from early-1970s, Prynoski in mid-1990s felt that his films from it's time were a time capsule of a culture. He began works on ''Downtown,'' for the same effect of what he felt watching about Bakshi's films of the period time, as ''Downtown'' years later. The cancellation confused Prynoski, as he had no idea why MTV canceled it after one season. The series is based on interviews with real people. Characters * Alex Henson (voiced by Gregory Gilmore) is a nerdy 24-year-old virgin and Chaka's older brother. He harbors a crush on ...
