''Down to Earth'' is the fourth album by psychedelic soul group The Undisputed Truth. Details Original Undisputed Truth members Billie Rae Calvin and Brenda Joyce Evans left shortly before the recording of this album, and the group's producer, Norman Whitfield, took the opportunity to expand the group. Founding member and male lead singer Joe Harris was joined by Virginia "V" McDonald, Tyrone "Big Ty" Douglas, Tyrone "Lil Ty" Barkeley and Calvin "Dhaak" Stephenson, all of whom had been part of The Magictones, a local Detroit soul group. The first six tracks on the album were recorded by this new line-up. The leads (except for " Just You 'N' Me", which is sung by Tyrone Barkley) are handled by Joe Harris and Virginia "V" McDonald (or "Vee") while the other members provide backing vocals. The last four tracks were recorded by the original line-up, and had already found release as album tracks on previous Undisputed Truth LPs and/or as singles. Although ''Down To Earth'' made a ...

Down To Earth (Stevie Wonder Album)
''Down to Earth'' is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder, released on November 16, 1966, on the Tamla (Motown) label. The album was a departure from Wonder's earlier, teen pop-driven albums, and, along with its predecessor, '' Up-Tight'', it re-established the sixteen-year-old Wonder, whose voice had recently changed, as a Motown hitmaker. The album features the hit single " A Place in the Sun". Another single, " Hey Love", became a hit for Detroit soul singer Bettye LaVette in 1969 (released as a B-side to "With a Little Help from My Friends"). Down To Earth (Rainbow Album)
''Down to Earth'' is the fourth studio album by the British hard rock band Rainbow. It is their last album to feature drummer Cozy Powell, their first with bassist Roger Glover and keyboardist Don Airey and their only album with vocalist Graham Bonnet. Released in 1979, it contains Rainbow's first hit single " Since You Been Gone", marking a more commercial direction of the band's sound. Writing and recording The writing of ''Down to Earth'' began at Ritchie Blackmore's house in Connecticut in January 1979. By that time, he had dismissed both bassist Bob Daisley and keyboardist David Stone before singer Ronnie James Dio quit the band. Blackmore had already recruited his old Deep Purple bandmate Roger Glover as producer and started auditioning musicians for the vacant slots in the band, while songwriting progressed with Blackmore, Cozy Powell and session bassist Clive Chaman. The songs were largely written by Blackmore and Glover. "It was a great opportunity for me, and why ...

Down To Earth (Ozzy Osbourne Album)
''Down to Earth'' is the eighth studio album by English heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. Released on 16 October 2001, it reached number 19 on the UK Albums Chart and number four on the US ''Billboard'' 200. "The Ozzfest was doing well", Osbourne explained. "I just wanted to be like the Grateful Dead and keep it going by touring, but the record company said they'd like a new Ozzy album." ''Down to Earth'' spawned just two singles, although both reached the top ten of the US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and the top 40 of the Canadian Singles Chart, and reached number 18 on the UK Singles Chart. Excluding his contributions to re-recordings of Ozzy's earlier material, ''Down to Earth'' is the only Osbourne studio album to feature bassist Robert Trujillo, who left to join Metallica in 2003. It was the first Osbourne album to feature drummer Mike Bordin, previously of Faith No More, though he had played live with Osbourne since 1996, as well as the last to feature guitarist ...

Down To Earth (Monie Love Album)
''Down to Earth'' is the debut studio album by English rapper Monie Love. It was released on 30 October 1990 on Warner Bros. Records. It peaked at 109 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and at 26 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and spawned three charting singles. " It's a Shame (My Sister)" became Monie's only top-40 hit in the U.S., and peaked at 26 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, while "Monie in the Middle" and "Down 2 Earth" were both successful on the R&B and hip hop charts. Critical reception In a contemporary review for ''The Village Voice'', music critic Robert Christgau gave ''Down to Earth'' an "A−" and was impressed by Love's proud sensibilities, as she "radiates sisterhood even though she concentrates on the guys, and positivity and tradition" without much culturally or politically conscious lyrics. ''The New York Times'' concluded that the album was "a letdown, as it settles for midtempo pop raps with slight insights". Alex Henderson, in a retrospective review for AllMusic, w ...

Down To Earth (Jimmy Buffett Album)
''Down to Earth'' is the debut studio album by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was produced by Travis Turk and was released on August 11, 1970 on Andy Williams's Barnaby Records label as Z 30093. A compact disc was released by Varèse Sarabande in June 1998. Songs All of the songs on ''Down to Earth'' were written or co-written by Buffett. "The Captain and the Kid" was re-recorded thrice by Buffett: '' Havaña Daydreamin''', '' Meet Me in Margaritaville: The Ultimate Collection'' and ''Songs You Don't Know by Heart''. The folk-rock style of music and lyrics on ''Down to Earth'' and ''High Cumberland Jubilee'' differ greatly from Buffett's subsequent output. There is less of the country music feel and little of the Gulf and Western, Key-West-influenced sound and themes that have defined his musical career. Allmusic reviewer William Ruhlmann notes that "this is not the freewheeling Jimmy Buffett of 'Margaritaville,' but rather a thoughtful folk-rock si ...

accessed November 2, 2010

Reception

The review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine awarded the album 4½ stars and stated "Freddie Roach differentiated himself from the legions of soul-jazz organists on his debut album, ''Down to Earth''. Many jazz organists played the instrument down and dirty, and while there's funk in Roach's playing, his style is ultimately lighter than many of his peers, with clean, concise solos and chords... the signature of ''Down to Earth'' is Roach's tasteful bluesy ...
