Double-nail Illusion
The double-nail illusion is a #Multi-modal_illusion, multi-modal illusion in which two similar physical objects, which are located one behind the other in depth, appear visually to be next to each other (at a depth about halfway between the two physically present objects) instead of one being directly behind the other. This observation cannot be explained on the basis of classical theories of Stereopsis, binocular depth perception (Krol 1982, p. 28-33), but it can be explained by binocular #Ghosts_in_a_neural_network, ghosts in a neural network. Whether in reference to the anatomy of the human or other members of the Bilateria, the median plane, also called the midsagittal plane and related terms, is used to describe the sagittal plane as it bisects the body vertically through the midline marked by the navel, dividing the body exactly in left and right side. The term parasagittal plane is used to refer to any plane parallel to the sagittal and median plane. It is one of the lines used to define the right upper quadrant of the human abdomen. Directional Vision
In the classical science of vision, directional vision describes that when a point of the retina is stimulated by light, this not only leads to a light sensation (image), but also a directional sensation that is recorded by the brain in one combined image of both eyes, as a direction in which the observer is central (#Egocentric direction, egocentric direction). Alhazen (Ibn al-Haytham), an Arab scholar from the 11th century, was the first to propose that vision is possible because light reflects off objects and then enters the eye after which perceptions arise in the brain that are partly the result of activities of the observer, such as directing the eyes.
