Edward Richard Doheny (November 24, 1873 – December 29, 1916) was an American pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates from 1895 to 1903. Doheny finished his career with a win–loss record of 75–83. During his last MLB season, he was declared insane and committed to an asylum. Edward Laurence Doheny
Edward Laurence Doheny (; August 10, 1856 – September 8, 1935) was an American oil tycoon who, in 1892, drilled the first successful oil well in the Los Angeles City Oil Field. His success set off a petroleum boom in Southern California, and made him a fortune when, in 1902, he sold his properties. He then began highly profitable oil operations in Tampico, Mexico's "golden belt", drilling the first well in the nation in 1901. He expanded operations during the Mexican Revolution, and opened large new oil fields in Lake Maracaibo (Venezuela). His holdings developed as the Pan American Petroleum & Transport Company, one of the largest oil companies in the world in the 1920s. Jer Doheny
Jeremiah "Jer" Doheny (20 July 1874 – 11 August 1929) was an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. He was captain for Kilkenny's first All Ireland victory in 1904. Born in Ballycallan, County Kilkenny, Doheny first played competitive hurling in his youth. He made his senior debut during the 1893 championship and became a regular player over the next decade. During that time Doheny won one All-Ireland medal and eight Leinster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on four occasions. At club level Doheny was a ten-time championship medallist with Tullaroan and Johnstown, while he also played with Threecastles. John Steven "Pip" Doheny (born 17 December 1953) is a jazz tenor saxophonist and bandleader. Born in Seattle, Washington, Doheny studied with Canadian saxophonist and bandleader Fraser MacPherson, whom he credits as a major influence. He spent his early career in the 1970s primarily in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, playing in local rhythm and blues bands and strip clubs, as well as spending large parts of each year on road trips to taverns throughout rural British Columbia and Alberta. By the late 1970s and into the mid 1980s he was appearing as a sideman with artists such as Albert Collins, Doug and the Slugs, the Coasters, the Platters, the Temptations, and Buddy Knox. In the late 1980s he relocated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and then New York City, working with the bands of Lloyd Williams, Solomon Burke, Danny B, and Kenny Margolis. Lawrence Doheny (14 April 1924 - 7 September 1982) was an Irish-born American television and film director who directed more than 100 episodes of television from the 1950s to the 1980s. Born in Limerick, Doheny emigrated to the United States in the 1930s and began directing for television, first on the series '' The Big Story'' and ''Rescue 8''. In 1961, he wrote and directed a feature film, ''Teenage Millionaire''. This would be Doheny's only foray into feature films. Michael Doheny (22 May 1805 – 1 April 1862Some references give 1862: ) was an Irish writer, lawyer, member of the Young Ireland movement, and co-founder of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, an Irish secret society which would go on to launch the Fenian Raids on Canada, Fenian Rising of 1867, and the Easter Rising of 1916, each of which was an attempt to bring about Irish Independence from Britain. Doheny Drive is a north–south thoroughfare mostly through Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, in Los Angeles County, California. It is named for Edward L. Doheny, an early 20th century oil tycoon based in Los Angeles. Route Doheny Drive starts south of Cashio Street, in a residential cul-de-sac near the Beverlywood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Doheny State Beach (known colloquially as Doho) is known as the first state beach in the California state park system.
