Dobbs County, North Carolina
Dobbs County, North Carolina was a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. History Dobbs County was formed in 1758 from Johnston County, though the legislative act that created it did not become effective until April 10, 1759. It was named for Arthur Dobbs, colonial governor of North Carolina from 1754 until 1764. In 1779, during the American Revolutionary War, the western part was designated as Wayne County. The county seat was moved from its original location on Walnut Creek to the town of Kingston, which was renamed Kinston in 1784. Dobbs went unrepresented in the 1788 Hillsboro Convention to vote on the new constitution of the United States. The Federalist delegation was elected without opposition. The Anti-Federalists abstained. Federalists rioted, as they had done in the previous election after predicting Richard Caswell's loss, stealing the ballot box, and assaulting the sheriff. Fort Dobbs (North Carolina)
Fort Dobbs was an 18th-century fort in the Yadkin–Pee Dee River Basin region of the Province of North Carolina, near what is now Statesville in Iredell County. Used for frontier defense during and after the French and Indian War, the fort was built to protect the American settlers of the western frontier of North Carolina, and served as a vital outpost for soldiers. Fort Dobbs' primary structure was a blockhouse with log walls, surrounded by a shallow ditch, and by 1759, a palisade. It was intended to provide protection from French-allied Native Americans such as the Shawnee raids into western North Carolina. The fort's name honored Arthur Dobbs, the Royal Governor of North Carolina from 1755 to 1765, who played a role in designing the fort and authorized its construction. Dobbs Weir is both a weir in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire and an area of Roydon, Essex, Roydon, Essex in England on the River Lea. It is well known for angling, outdoor beauty and Water sport (recreation), watersports. It is overlooked by the ''Fish and Eels'' pub. Angling The weir is a popular fishery. In 2003, the then record European chub, Chub weighing 8.8 pound (mass), pounds was caught by Tim Archer. The fishery is owned by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and is currently (2013) controlled by the partnership of Ware Angling Club and Hertford Angling Club forming a part of the Towpath Fishery.
