Djurgårdens IF (men's Ice Hockey)
Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening, commonly known as Djurgårdens IF, Djurgården Hockey, or Djurgården (), is a professional ice hockey team based in Stockholm, Sweden, affiliated with the Djurgårdens IF umbrella organization. Djurgården compete in the highest Swedish ice hockey league, the Swedish Hockey League, SHL. The men's team is the most successful Swedish ice hockey team of all time, as 16-time List of Swedish ice hockey champions, Swedish champions, 12-time runners-up, 26-time finalists, and leaders of the Marathon standings for the top Swedish ice hockey league, marathon table for the top flight of Swedish hockey. Djurgården ( or ) or, more officially, , is an island in central Stockholm, Sweden. Djurgården is home to historical buildings and monuments, museums, galleries, the amusement park Gröna Lund, the open-air museum Skansen, the small residential area ''Djurgårdsstaden'', yacht harbours, and extensive stretches of forest and meadows. John Einar "Stor-Klas" Svensson (27 September 1894 – 20 March 1959) was a Swedish ice hockey player, bandy player, footballer and football manager. He competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. In 1920 he was a member of the Swedish ice hockey team which finished fourth in the Summer Olympics tournament. He played five matches and scored two goals. Djurgårdens IF Bandy is the bandy section of Swedish sports club Djurgårdens IF, located in Stockholm. History Djurgårdens IF was one of the teams playing at the Nordic Games in 1905, where the team lost the final to Uppsala HK. The club has been in the list of Swedish bandy champions, Swedish championship finals seven times before 1930, and won two of them, in 1908 and 1912. The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France, was the second Olympic Championship, also serving as the second World Championships. The competition was held from Monday, January 28, 1924, to Sunday, February 3, 1924. Canada, represented by the Toronto Granites, defended its championship from the 1920 Summer Olympics. The United States and Great Britain took the silver and bronze respectively, while other contenders included Czechoslovakia, France, and Sweden. The Bergvall system used in the 1920 Olympics was discarded in favor of a two-level round-robin tournament. Qualifying teams were placed in pools for the opening round, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the final round. The medals were awarded based on the record in the final round. Västerås IK (''Västerås Ishockey klubb'') is a professional ice hockey club from Västerås, Sweden. The team is currently playing in the second-tier league in Sweden, HockeyAllsvenskan. Västerås IK played 12 seasons in the top Swedish league Swedish Hockey League, Elitserien (1988–89 to 1999–00) before the club went bankrupt and merged with the junior club (Västerås IK Ungdom), which changed name to VIK Västerås HK in 2005. The Le Mat Trophy (, ) is the trophy awarded to Swedish champions in ice hockey. The trophy has been awarded since the 1926 season and starting with the 1975–76 season – it has been awarded to the winners of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) playoffs. Hammarby Hockey (1921–2008)
Hammarby IF Ishockeyförening (or Hammarby Hockey) was a Stockholm-based professional ice hockey team that for most of its history played in Hovet. Hammarby IF started playing hockey in 1921, playing their first matches using a group of curious bandy players. Hammarby were giants in the early history of Swedish hockey, playing in Sweden's top league from the birth of Swedish organized hockey in 1922 until 1957. During that period, they were crowned Swedish champions eight times (1932, 1933, 1936, 1937, 1942, 1943, 1945, and 1951) in 13 attempts.
