DisJam
disJam is an acid-jazz and jazz-funk band from Hamburg, Germany. disJam overview, Allmusic. Accessed on line 22 December 2007. The band's members have included Christoph Kähler (drums, guitar and vocals), Sascha Panknin (bass guitar, guitar and keyboards), Volker Kurnoth (guitar and vocals), Ralf Petter (keyboards and vocals), Ole Janssen (saxophone) and Oliver Schumacher (percussion and keyboards). disJam was formed in the early 1990s and has been known in Germany, Switzerland and Austria since the mid-1990s; they have frequently been on tour with Die Fantastischen Vier, as well as performed on their albums ''Lauschgift'' and '' Live und Direkt''. Sascha Panknin (born March 19, 1967) is a German musician, songwriter and record producer, and a founding member and bassist of the band disjam. His 5000 Records label has released artists such as TGFA, Deja-Move, Superpulse, James Newton Adams and the compilation series Brazil 5000. Shadow Records
Shadow Records was launched in 1995 as a sub-label of Instinct Records, with a focus on the more organic side of the underground electronic music scene. The label's first release in 1995, ''Abstrackt Workshop'', featured performances by DJ Krush, Funki Porcini, and Marden Hill in addition to songs from labels like ''Pussyfoot'' and ''Yellow Productions''. The next step included a 2-year involvement with the UK beat label Ninja Tune. This partnership introduced the likes of Funki Porcini, DJ Food, 9 Lazy 9, Up, Bustle and Out, Hedfunk, and London Funk Allstars to US audiences. Jazz-funk
Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat, electrified sounds, and analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre that ranges from pure jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals. Similar genres to jazz funk include acid jazz. History Jazz-funk exhibits several distinctive characteristics. A first characteristic of jazz funk has simple structure based around one or two riffs, and second characteristic of jazz funk has a harmonic structure that allows musicians to improvise. Modern jazz funk music was influenced by Herbie Hancock. The Mizell Brothers were producers for many jazz and soul artists.
