Upper Dicker
Arlington is a village and civil parish in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The parish is on the River Cuckmere, and is the location of a medieval priory, a reservoir and a car racetrack. History Arlington is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 when it comprised five households and ploughing lands, but the area has been settled since Anglo-Saxon times. It is suggested that the wooden church in Arlington built by them, having been destroyed by invaders, was later rebuilt with bricks from the nearby Roman road. Apart from the Anglo-Saxon type of quoin stones, the church shows a splayed window of Anglo-Saxon type next to the porch. Supporting an early date is the dedication of the church to St Pancras, the Roman martyr, relics of whom were given to one of the Anglo-Saxon kings: he was reputed to be a teenager when put to death in one of the Roman persecutions of Christians. There is a statue of this saint in the RC church at Lewes: it is reasonable, therefore, t ...

Lower Dicker
Lower Dicker is a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Hailsham in East Sussex. It is a Geological Conservation Review site. Geology Exposures of a sand member are present in the quarry. The sand is of the lower division of the Weald Clay. The sandstone units of the Weald Clay Group represent river deposits which periodically extended into the Wealden lake or lagoon. The sandstones are important as lithostratigraphical markers (units of rock with the same affinity) and are considered to reflect the effects of tectonic uplift in nearby areas feeding sediment into the area. The mineralogy of these sandstones reflects their provenance and they are therefore of great importance for understanding the changes which took place in the palaeogeography of the Weald The Weald () is an area of South East England between the parallel chalk escarpments of the North and the South Downs. It crosses the counties of Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, and Kent. ...

Dickering Wapentake
Dickering was a wapentake (which is an administrative division) of the historic East Riding of Yorkshire in England, consisting of the north-east part of that county, including the towns of Bridlington and Filey; its territory is now partly in the modern East Riding and partly in North Yorkshire. The Wapentake of Dickering ceased to have much significance in the 19th century when the wapentakes were superseded by other administrative divisions for most local government purposes. Dickering consisted of the parishes of Argam, Bempton, Bessingby, Boynton, East Riding of Yorkshire, Boynton, Bridlington, Burton Agnes, Burton Fleming, Carnaby, East Riding of Yorkshire, Carnaby, Flamborough, Folkton, Foston on the Wolds, Foxholes, North Yorkshire, Foxholes, Ganton, North Yorkshire, Ganton, Garton on the Wolds, Hunmanby, Kilham, East Riding of Yorkshire, Kil ...

Dicker-rod
The dicker-rod (also spelled dickerod) is a device intended to replace the first down chains commonly used to measure 10-yard distances during games of gridiron football. The device was named for its inventor, George Dicker (1913–1989) of Tustin, California, and received a patent in 1973. The dicker-rod also aims to improve safety, as a 10-yard length of chain laying along the sideline can be a hazard for players. Additionally, it requires just one person to operate, rather than a three-person chain crew. However, the dicker-rod has not been widely used, and the first-down chain remains the standard. Description The device features a rod approximately in length. Initially, the rod is positioned horizontally by its operator, and a marker attached to the rod is positioned to indicate the ball's position from the nearest five-yard marker (that is, the 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. yard lines). For example, if a set of downs begins on the 23-yard line, the marker is placed two yards along ...
