Dick's Picks Volume 29
''Dick's Picks Volume 29'' is an album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. The 29th installment of the "Dick's Picks" archival series, it was recorded May 19, 1977, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, and May 21, 1977, at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland, Florida. The six-CD release is the longest album in the series and the only one with more than four CDs. The album contains all of both concerts, except for the encore of the Florida show ("U.S. Blues"). Also included are five unlisted bonus tracks, recorded October 11, 1977 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Additional material from this concert later appeared on '' Road Trips Volume 1 Number 2''. Enclosures This release is a boxed set containing two CD cases, one for each show. Grateful Dead
The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. The band is known for its eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, Folk music, folk, country music, country, jazz, bluegrass music, bluegrass, blues, rock and roll, gospel music, gospel, reggae, world music, and psychedelic music, psychedelia; for Concert, live performances of lengthy jam session, instrumental jams that typically incorporated mode (music), modal and tonality, tonal musical improvisation, improvisation; and for its devoted fan base, known as "Deadheads". Phil Lesh
Philip Chapman Lesh (born March 15, 1940) is an American musician and a founding member of the Grateful Dead, with whom he played bass guitar throughout their 30-year career. After the band's disbanding in 1995, Lesh continued the tradition of Grateful Dead family music with side project Phil Lesh and Friends, which paid homage to the Dead's music by playing their originals, common covers, and the songs of the members of his band. Lesh operated a music venue called Terrapin Crossroads. He scaled back his touring regimen in 2014 but continues to perform with Phil Lesh & Friends at select venues. ''Dick's Picks Volume 3'' is the third live album in the Dick's Picks series by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on May 22, 1977 at the Sportatorium in Pembroke Pines, Florida. It was released in November 1995 on Grateful Dead Records. ''Dick's Picks Volume 3'' was again released, by Grateful Dead Productions, in November 2005 as a digital download. The track "Sugaree" was also used on the promotional sampler ''A Glimpse of the Vault'', released in 1996. Caveat emptor Each volume of ''Dick's Picks'' has its own "caveat emptor" label, advising the listener of the sound quality of the recording. David Hardy Lemieux (born November 8, 1970) is an audio and film archivist. He is a Grammy, Juno, and Gemini Award voting member. He is the audiovisual archivist and legacy manager for the Grateful Dead. Education Lemieux is originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and was educated at Carleton University in Ottawa (BA in history), Concordia University in Montreal (BFA in film studies) and the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK (MA in film archiving). Grateful Dead He has been working as the Grateful Dead's audiovisual archivist and CD/DVD producer since September 1999. He was put in charge of the Grateful Dead's vault after the August 1999 passing of original Grateful Dead tape archivist Dick Latvala. Betty Cantor-Jackson
Betty Cantor-Jackson (born 1948) is an American audio engineer and producer. She is best known for her work recording live concerts for the Grateful Dead from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, including the '' Cornell 5/8/77'' album. She is noted for her ear for recording and her long tenure with the band. Keith Godchaux
Keith Richard Godchaux (July 19, 1948 – July 23, 1980) was a pianist best known for his tenure in the rock group the Grateful Dead from 1971 to 1979. Dire Wolf (song)
"Dire Wolf" is a ballad by the Grateful Dead, released as the third track on their 1970 album ''Workingman's Dead''. The lyrics were written by Robert Hunter after watching a film adaptation of ''The Hound of the Baskervilles''. The music, containing elements of country and folk music, was composed by Jerry Garcia on the same day. William Kreutzmann Jr. ( ; born May 7, 1946) is an American drummer and founding member of the rock band Grateful Dead. Norman Petty
Norman Petty (May 25, 1927 – August 15, 1984) was an American musician, record producer, publisher, radio station owner, and considered to be one of the founding fathers of early rock & roll. Biography Petty was born in the small town of Clovis, New Mexico. He began playing piano at a young age. While in high school, he regularly performed on a 15-minute show on a local radio station. After his graduation in 1945, he was drafted into the United States Air Force. When he returned, he married his high-school sweetheart Violet Ann Brady on June 20, 1948.
