Det Brenner I Natt!
''Fire in the Night'' () is a 1955 Norwegian drama film directed by Arne Skouen. It was entered into the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. Plot Tim is a proofreader at a newspaper in Oslo by day, and a pyromaniac at night. Only one other person knows about Tim's dark side: his childhood friend and editor of the newspaper. The two have kept the secret for years until the secretary, Margrethe, finds out. Eager to help, she becomes Tim's confidant. Arne Skouen
Arne Skouen (18 October 1913 – 24 May 2003) was a Norwegian journalist, author, film director and film producer. Biography Arne Skouen was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. His parents were Peder Nikolai Skouen (1883-1978) and Jenny Emanuelson (1883-1975). He graduated at Hegdehaugen School in 1933. He had three distinct career careers: journalist, author and filmmaker, partly at the same time. He was a journalist at ''Dagbladet'' from 1935 to 1941. From 1941 during World War II, Skouen was associated with the Norwegian Resistance Movement during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany. From 1943 to 1945, Skouen worked at the press office in Stockholm, London, and New York City. After the liberation of Norway at the end of World War II, he returned to ''Dagbladet'' as a columnist, serving from 1946 to 1947. Claes Gill
Claes Gill (13 October 1910 - 11 June 1973) was a Norwegian writer, poet and actor. Born in Odda, but spent his childhood years in Bergen, before moving to Oslo permanently. His most famous works were the poetry book ''Fragment av et magisk liv'' ("Fragment of a magic life") in 1939, followed by ''Ord i jærn'' ("Words in iron") in 1942. Both books were inspired by French Symbolism, and stand as early examples of the modern form. He later became involved in acting, and was director of Rogaland Teater from 1952 til 1956. 1955 Cannes Film Festival
The 8th Cannes Film Festival took place from 26 April to 10 May 1955. French writer and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol served as jury president for the main competition. The first ''Palme d'Or'' was awarded, as the highest prize of the Festival, to '' Marty'' by Delbert Mann. Until the 1954 Festival, the whimsical way various prizes were being awarded had drawn much criticism. In answer to this, from 1955 onwards, the Jury was composed of foreign celebrities from the film industry. Elisabeth Bang
Elisabeth Bang (26 September 1922 – 28 September 2009) was a Norwegian actress. She was born in Skedsmo in Akershus, Norway. During World War II, she made her stage debut at Bærum Studiescene where she also met her future husband actor Pål Skjønberg (1919–2014). They married in 1946, and as such Bang became a daughter-in-law of actor Eugen Skjønberg (1889–1971) and stage director Henny Skjønberg (1886–1973) and sister-in-law of actor Espen Skjønberg. She was employed at Det Nye Teater from 1945 to 1946, Det Norske Teatret from 1946 to 1948, the Nationaltheatret from 1948 to 1950 and again at Det Norske Teatret from 1952. Gudrun Waadeland (3 August 1937 - 8 October 2020) was a Norwegian actress and theatre director. Career She was born in Oslo, made her film debut in 1955 in Arne Skouen's ''Det brenner i natt!'' and her stage debut at Det Norske Teatret in 1959. She then worked in Fjernsynsteatret from 1960 to 1963, Riksteatret Riksteatret (English: National Traveling Theater) is a Norwegian touring theatre. It was established by law in 1948. Its first performance was in Kirkenes in 1949, with Sigurd Christiansen's play ''En reise i natten''. The theatre plays on about ... from 1963 to 1964 and 1970 to 1975 and Edderkoppen 1964 to 1965. She was then the director of Riksteatret from 1975 to 1988. Waadeland died on 8 October 2020 at the age of 83.
