Denmark was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 with the song "", composed by Søren Bundgaard, with lyrics by Keld Heick, and performed by Hot Eyes. The Danish participating broadcaster, (DR), organised the in order to select its entry for the contest. This was the first of three Eurovision appearances in five years for the couple. Before Eurovision (DR) held the on 18 February at TV-Byen in Gladsaxe, hosted by Jørgen de Mylius. Ten songs took part with the winner being decided by voting from five regional juries. DR (broadcaster)
DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise. DR shares many of its organisational characteristics with its British counterpart, the BBC, on which it was largely modelled. DR is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union. Bjarne Corydon will become the Director-General of DR in August 2025. DR was originally funded by a media licence, however since 2022, the media license has been replaced by an addition to the Danish income tax. Dansk Melodi Grand Prix
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (), also known as Melodi Grand Prix or simply DMGP, is an annual music competition organised by the Danish public broadcaster DR since 1957, which determines for the Eurovision Song Contest. The festival has produced three Eurovision winners and fourteen top-five placings. History With the introduction of a semi-final at the 2004 contest, and due to Denmark's absence from the 2003 contest, Denmark's 2004 representative, Tomas Thordarson, had to take part in the semi-final. His song, " Shame on You" did not reach the final, finishing 13th in a field of 22 contestants. In 2005, DR made a bold step for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Hot Eyes
Kirsten & Søren, known internationally as Hot Eyes, were a Danish singing duo consisting of Kirsten Siggaard Andersen (born 7 September 1954 in Slagelse) and Søren Bundgaard Nielsen (born 4 March 1956 in Glostrup). Biography Kirsten was brought up in a traditional Christian family who sang in a church choir when she was young and later pursued a career deemed appropriate and desirable, working in a bank, where she met her husband, Jorgen. Søren was a musician, singer and composer, at that time a member of the Danish band Sir Henry. Both Sir Henry and Kirsten entered the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, which serves as the Danish pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), in 1983. Keld Heick
Keld Heick (born 24 February 1946 in Frederiksberg) is a Danish singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known for his contribution to the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, where he has submitted over 30 songs. In 1963 Heick formed the band ''Keld & the Donkeys''. The band's big breakthrough came in 1966 with the song "Ved landsbyens gadekær" (eng. "At the village pond"). In 1976 he decided to merge his professional and personal life, when he made a duo with his wife Hilda Heick. They made their debut with the hit "Do you speak English?" and later had another hit with "Jeg ringer på fredag" (eng. "I'll call you this Friday"). Besides the music Keld Heick has also worked as a TV host. In 1996-1997 he was the host of '' Lykkehjulet'' the Danish version of '' Wheel of Fortune''. The Eurovision Song Contest 1984 was the 29th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 5 May 1984 in the in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. TV-Byen is the former headquarters of national Danish broadcaster DR, located in Gladsaxe, approximately 9 kilometres northwest of central Copenhagen, Denmark. The 207,000 m2 site has been redeveloped with a mixture of offices, housing and retail after DR inaugurated their new headquarters, DR Byen in 2007. History The Radio House (''Radiohuset'') in Frederiksberg was completed as a new home for DR in 1945. The building was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen. In the 1950s, with the increasing role of the television media, the building became too small. Gladsaxe Municipality () is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') near Copenhagen in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. Jørgen De Mylius
Jørgen de Mylius (born 5 March 1946) is a Danish radio and TV personality that is best known for his work in connection with the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix as a host and commentator. Sometimes he is referred to as Jørgen Mylius or by his nickname Mylle. Biography He was born on 5 March 1946, at Frederiksberg, Denmark and graduated a mathematical Student from Østre Borgerdyd Gymnasium in 1964. In 1968 he finished an education as journalist. Tommy Seebach (14 September 1949 – 31 March 2003), born Tommy Seebach Mortensen in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a popular Danish singer, composer, organist, pianist and producer. He is best known as front man of Sir Henry and his Butlers and for numerous contributions to the Danish qualifier for the Eurovision Song Contest, the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, which he won three times. Lise Haavik (born 23 February 1962) is a Norwegian–Danish singer, best known for representing Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest in Bergen, Norway in 1986. She is also well-known domestically for her partnership in the duo Trax with John Hatting, her ex-husband. Biography Early life Lise Haavik was born in Narvik, Norway on 23 February 1962.
