Des O'Grady
James Desmond O'Grady (1952 – 8 January 2025) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back at senior level for the Cork county football team, Cork county team. Career Born in Togher, Cork, Togher, Cork (city), Cork, O'Grady first played competitive football during his youth. He made his senior debut during the 1977 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, 1977 championship. O'Grady was a regular member of the team for just one season. He was a Munster Senior Football Championship, Munster runner-up on one occasion. At club level O'Grady is a one-time All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, All-Ireland medallist with St Finbarr's National Hurling & Football Club, St Finbarr's. St Finbarr's National Hurling & Football Club or St Finbarr's Hurling and Football Club is a Gaelic games club based in the Togher, Cork, Togher area of Cork (city), Cork city, County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Cork University Hospital () is a large university teaching hospital in Wilton, Cork in Ireland. Its academic partner is University College Cork and serves as one of two major trauma centers for Ireland: the other is Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The 1979 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 91st staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The championship began on 11 April 1979 and ended on 21 October 1979. Nemo Rangers entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Castlehaven at the semi-final stage. On 21 October 1979, St. Finbarr's won the championship following a 3-14 to 2-07 defeat of Castlehaven in the final. This was their fifth championship title overall and their first title since 1976. The 1976 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 88th staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place on 24 January 1976. Nemo Rangers entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by St. Finbarr's in the semi-finals. The final was played on 14 November 1976 at the newly-opened Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork, between St. Finbarr's and St. Michael's, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. The 1969–70 Harty Cup was the 50th staging of the Harty Cup since the establishment of the hurling competition by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1918.
