''Death's End'' () is a science fiction novel by the Chinese writer Liu Cixin. It is the third novel in the trilogy titled ''Remembrance of Earth's Past'', following the Hugo Award-winning novel '' The Three-Body Problem'' and its sequel, ''The Dark Forest''. The original Chinese version was published in 2010. Ken Liu translated the English edition in 2016. It was a finalist for the 2017 Hugo Award for Best Novel and winner of the 2017 Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. Ken Liu (born 1976) is an American author of science fiction and fantasy. His epic fantasy series ''The Dandelion Dynasty'', which he describes as silkpunk, is published by Simon & Schuster. Liu has won Hugo and Nebula Awards for his short fiction, which has appeared in ''F&SF'', ''Asimov's'', ''Analog'', ''Lightspeed'', '' Clarkesworld'', and multiple "Year's Best" anthologies. Childhood and career Liu was born in 1976 in Lanzhou, China. He spent his childhood with his grandparents. Mutual assured destruction (MAD) is a doctrine of military strategy and national security policy which posits that a full-scale use of nuclear weapons by an attacker on a nuclear-armed defender with second-strike capabilities would cause the complete annihilation of both the attacker and the defender.
