David Portner
David Michael Portner (born April 24, 1979), also known by his moniker Avey Tare, is a musician and songwriter who co-founded the American experimental pop band Animal Collective. He has released four solo albums, as well as four collaborative albums with Panda Bear (musician), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) three of which were later retroactively classified under Animal Collective's discography. Animal Collective Portner met Animal Collective's Deakin (musician), Deakin (Josh Dibb), Panda Bear (musician), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), and Geologist (musician), Geologist (Brian Weitz) in high school. For years, the four of them swapped homemade recordings, shared musical ideas and performed in different group configurations. Abigail Portner is an American visual artist, designer, music video director and musician in the bands Rings and Hex Message, and solo under the name Drawlings. She currently lives and works out of Savannah, Georgia. Visual art Abby Portner's work is closely connected to her friends and especially to her brother David Portner's band Animal Collective. She started to make tour posters when they were still in High School together in Baltimore, Maryland. Ponytail was an American four-piece art rock band formed in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S. The group featured vocalist Willy Siegel, guitarists Dustin Wong and Ken Seeno, and drummer Jeremy Hyman. The band has toured internationally, with bands such as Battles, Hella, Don Caballero, High Places and others. Dirty Projectors is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002. The band is the project of singer-songwriter David Longstreth, who has served as the band's sole constant member throughout numerous line-up changes. The band's current line-up consists of Longstreth, alongside Maia Friedman (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Felicia Douglass (vocals, percussion, keyboards) and Olga Bell (vocals, keyboards). Angel Deradoorian (born July 18, 1986), also known mononymously as Deradoorian, is a musician based in Los Angeles, California. She is best known for her work with Dirty Projectors as full-time member from 2007 to 2012. She left to pursue a solo career. In 2015 she released a solo studio album, '' The Expanding Flower Planet''. ''Enter the Slasher House'' is the only album by Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks, a group consisting of Avey Tare of Animal Collective, ex-Dirty Projectors member Angel Deradoorian, and ex-Ponytail drummer Jeremy Hyman. The first single from the album, "Little Fang", was named "Best New Track" by ''Pitchfork''. Critical reception In his brief review for ''Rolling Stone'', Mike Ayers stated the record "has nothing to do with horror films and much to do with psychedelic rock." Andy Beta of ''Spin'' echoed this, saying that "despite both band and album name, Slasher Flicks' sound is less haunted house than funhouse: dense, noisy, with squiggles of analog synth that recall AnCo's ''Centipede Hz''." Múm (stylized in lowercase) () is an Icelandic indietronica band whose music is characterized by soft vocals, electronic glitch beats and effects, and a variety of traditional and unconventional instruments. History The band was formed in 1997 by original members Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason, who were joined by twin sisters Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir. Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir (born 5 January 1982), also known as Kría Brekkan, is an Icelandic vocalist and classically trained multi-instrumentalist. She is best known as a former frontwoman of múm, and later on for collaborating with former husband David Portner as Avey Tare & Kría Brekkan. Pullhair Rubeye
''Pullhair Rubeye'' is a collaborative studio album released by Animal Collective member Avey Tare (David Portner) and his then-wife Kría Brekkan (Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir, formerly of múm). The album was released April 24, 2007 in CD, LP, and digital formats. Recording The songs were written in August 2005 in Paris, recorded with guitars and piano on an eight-track during 2006 in their practice space in Brooklyn and later mixed down on a borrowed two track. Just as both were completing the mix, the two track broke down and they didn’t hear the mixes until two months later when they obtained another two track, being surprised by the recorded sounds. The album is based on the live set both played during their shows in 2006 in the US and Iceland, but was released with the songs played backwards, as well as sped up at certain points. David Grubbs
David Grubbs (born September 21, 1967) is an American composer, guitarist, pianist, and vocalist. He was a founding member of Squirrel Bait, Bastro, and Gastr del Sol. He has also played in Codeine (band), Codeine, The Red Krayola, Bitch Magnet and The Wingdale Community Singers.
