David Hirsch (May 23, 1813 – February 2, 1895) was a German educator of the deaf. Biography David Hirsch was born into a Jewish family in , Rhenish Prussia, in 1813. At a young age, he began teaching children in the local Jewish community. His success in teaching two deaf boys to speak and write attracted the attention of the Prussian government. He went on to study at the Heinicke Institute for Deaf-Mutes in Crefeld, and afterwards at a similar institute in Cologne. At the age of 25, Hirsch was appointed director of a school for the deaf in Aachen. In 1847, he relocated to Rotterdam to work as a private tutor for the two deaf children of . Over time, additional deaf children were placed under his instruction. On May 23, 1853, Hirsch founded the Rotterdamsche Inrichting voor Doofstommen-onderwijs, the first school in Holland dedicated to the oralist method for the education of the deaf. David Hirsch (rabbi)
David Hirsch (born 1968) is an American rabbi. He serves as rosh yeshiva at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University in New York City. He is the spiritual leader and rav of Kehillas Bais Yosef in Passaic, New Jersey. Early life David Hirsch grew up in Peoria, Illinois and attended the Fasman Yeshiva High School in Skokie. He was the captain of his high school basketball team. After graduating from Fasman, Hirsch spent two years studying in Yeshivat Sha'alvim in Israel. Hirsch studied under Zalman Nechemia Goldberg during that time. He continued his learning at the Hebron Yeshiva in Israel. In 1990, Hirsch graduated summa cum laude from Yeshiva College. David Hirsh (born 29 September 1967) is a professor of sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London, and co-founder of Engage, a campaign against the academic boycott of Israel. Early life and education Hirsh was raised in a Jewish family in Highgate, London and attended Highgate School until he was 15, when he persuaded his parents to allow him to transfer to Woodhouse Grammar School. For several years, he was a member of the Trotskyist Alliance for Workers' Liberty and, during the 1980s, a leading activist in the National Organisation of Labour Students. He briefly studied physics at Sheffield University, then worked as a driver for several years. He is a graduate of City University, London and holds an M.A. in Philosophy and Social Theory and a PhD from the University of Warwick, writing his dissertation on Crimes Against Humanity and International Law.
