David Bailey (cricketer, Born 1944)
David Bailey (born 9 September 1944) is a retired English cricketer. He started his career in Minor Counties cricket with Durham, making his senior debut in 1961. Four years later Bailey joined Lancashire, and went on to play 27 first-class matches for the county. He achieved his highest first-class score of 136 in the match against Kent in July 1969. Bailey returned to Minor Counties cricket when he moved to Cheshire in 1973. He stayed with the county for 11 years, and was appointed captain for three seasons from 1974 to 1976. In the 1971 season, Bailey was the professional player for Accrington Cricket Club Accrington Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which play their home games at Thorneyholme Road in Accrington. West Hartlepool
West Hartlepool was a predecessor of Hartlepool, County Durham, England. It developed in the Victorian era and took the name from its western position in the parish of what is now known as the Headland. The former town was originally formed in 1848 as an accompanying settlement for nearby railway and docks, which brought and exported coal from the area. The rail network grew, connecting to docks in Leeds and other cities. Further developments in the area led to the 1960s formation of Hartlepool as a town. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. The Lancashire League is a competitive league of local cricket clubs drawn from the small to middle-sized mill towns, mainly but not exclusively, of East Lancashire. Its real importance is probably due to its history of employing professional players of international standing to play in the League. History The Lancashire Cricket League was formed on 16 March 1892, growing from the North East Cricket League that had been formed 17 months earlier. Accrington Cricket Club
Accrington Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which play their home games at Thorneyholme Road in Accrington. For the 2011 season their captain was Jimmy Hayhurst and their professional was Ashar Zaidi. The club was formed in 1846 and became a founder member of the Lancashire League in 1892. The club has won the League on five occasions, fielding well known cricketers including David Lloyd, Graeme Fowler, Nathan Astle, Bobby Simpson, Eddie Barlow and Shane Warne. In the 21st century, however, the club has struggled and in 2007 it was revealed that the club had debts exceeding £10,000 and that its future was at risk. The club have struggled through these problems though and won the double in 2008 and retained the league title against the odds in 2009. Kent County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Kent. A club representing the county was first founded in 1842 but Kent teams have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century, and the club has always held first-class status. The current Kent County Cricket Club was formed on 6 December 1870 following the merger of two representative teams. Kent have competed in the County Championship since the official start of the competition in 1890 and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.
