Dave's Picks Volume 41
''Dave's Picks Volume 41'' is a three-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains the complete concert recorded on May 26, 1977, at the Baltimore Civic Center in Baltimore, Maryland. It was released on January 28, 2022, in a limited edition of 25,000 copies. The album includes one bonus track – "U.S. Blues", the encore from the July 19, 1990 show at Deer Creek Music Center. This song had been omitted from '' Dave's Picks Volume 40'' due to lack of space. Critical reception On AllMusic Timothy Monger wrote, "May 26, 1977 saw the Dead occupying the Baltimore Civic Center for a spirited night of that era's staples and early workouts from the newly recorded but not-yet-released '' Terrapin Station'' album." Grateful Dead
The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in Palo Alto, California, in 1965. Donna Jean Godchaux
Donna Jean Thatcher Godchaux-MacKay (born August 22, 1947) is an American singer best known as a member of the rock band the Grateful Dead from 1972 to 1979. In addition to the Dead, she performed with the Jerry Garcia Band and the short-lived Heart of Gold Band, all alongside her first husband, Keith Godchaux. She formed the Donna Jean Godchaux Band in 2006. Biography Donna Jean Thatcher was born in Florence, Alabama. Prior to 1970, she had worked as a session singer in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, eventually singing with a group called Southern Comfort and appearing as a backup singer on at least two #1 hit songs: " When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge in 1966 and " Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley in 1969. Keith Godchaux
Keith Richard Godchaux (July 19, 1948 – July 23, 1980) was an American pianist best known for his tenure in the rock group the Grateful Dead from 1971 to 1979. Following their departure from the Dead, he and his wife Donna formed the Heart of Gold Band in 1980, but Godchaux died from injuries sustained in a car accident shortly after their first concert. "Around and Around" is a 1958 rock song written and first recorded by Chuck Berry. It originally appeared under the name "Around & Around" as the B-side to the single "Johnny B. Goode". Cover versions The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones covered the song on their EP ''Five by Five'' and second U.S. album '' 12 X 5'' in 1964. Norman Petty
Norman Petty (May 25, 1927 – August 15, 1984) was an American musician, record producer, publisher, and radio station owner. He is considered to be one of the founding fathers of early rock & roll. With Vi Ann Petty—his wife and vocalist—he founded the Norman Petty Trio. Biography Petty was born in the small town of Clovis, New Mexico. He began playing piano at a young age. While in high school, he regularly performed on a 15-minute show on a local radio station. After his graduation in 1945, he was drafted into the United States Air Force. Not Fade Away (song)
"Not Fade Away" is a song credited to Buddy Holly (originally under his first and middle names, Charles Hardin) and Norman Petty (although Petty's co-writing credit is likely to have been a formality) and first recorded by Holly and his band, the Crickets. Original song Holly and the Crickets recorded the song in Clovis, New Mexico, on May 27, 1957, the same day the song " Everyday" was recorded. The rhythmic pattern of "Not Fade Away" is a variant of the Bo Diddley beat, with the second stress occurring on the second rather than third beat of the first measure, which was an update of the "hambone" rhythm, or patted juba from West Africa. Jerry Allison, the drummer for the Crickets, pounded out the beat on a cardboard box.
